Life After the Long Weekend
So how do you handle dragging yourself back to work after a long weekend?
I had 4 days off since I took Friday off as well, but man it's hard getting back into the swing of things. Long weekend done...summer coming to an end.
Guess we do have hockey season to look forward to though, just around the corner.

Try coming back to work after having a 20 day vacation. It sucks. I was in Disneyland for 3 days then San Diego for a week, off to Phoenix for 9 days with an overnighter to Vegas mixed in there. Man this week is gonna suck and on top of all that I just put in my notice at work.

I haven't worked since June 27th. I finished up my last contract, took off to Portugal for a week to present at a conference in Lisbon, traveled back to Canada for a month between the island, Vancouver and Penticton and now I'm hanging out in Yunnan province in SW China between Vietnam and Tibet, just travelling with my wife and studying to prepare for some Chinese proficiency exams. I figure I will probably start work again some time in the next couple of months, but even then I definitely plan on spending a year developing areas of my life that I've just been too busy for over the last couple of years. Frankly, I feel like I've really lost my will to go back to work for anyone else again.

I'm on day 7 of a 15 day long weekend! Just had a 3 week vacation, came back to work for 3 consecutive 4 day work weeks too before taking this current 15 days off.

Geezus. Some of you sure have some nice lives, must be nice.
I promptly came back from the weekend in BC and went straight to work last night until 2:00 AM. Back at it this morning. I've already put in two days worth of work and it's Tuesday morning.

I just grab a big coffee and get going. If I start to ease myself back into it then I don't get anything done on the first day. If I get in early and start working right away, the rest of the day takes care of itself.

I make sure I miss my alarm clock, get an extra hour sleep and then manage to drag myself into the office 15 mins earlier than I should be starting (instead of the hour I normally do). The I spend 30 mins dealing with stupid user questions like "Where is the power button on my computer" and "I know I reset my password on Friday but I can't remember which single digit number I put on the end of my dogs name".
Then I get to the fun part of my job, and everything pretty much takes care of itself.

I get a long weekend every week as I get Saturday, Sunday & Monday off. So no changes for me except during a regular long weekend I get 4 (either Friday or Tuesday) and I don't notice a difference coming back from 3 or 4 days off.
I think this long weekend hits the hardest though because it's a reminder that the summer is quickly coming to an end. But hockey is just around the corner so you win some, you lose some.
