Sadly when they restored (that is completely revised while repairing the unintentionally damaged film), it meant the end of the original negative to copy from. Now all we have to go by is the old pre-special edition VHS (like me) or laserdisc if you are lucky.
I gave up on all things Lucas a long time ago. For example, even LucasArts' games really began to suck around the time of the special edition releases.

So you're another one who's bitching and moaning you want the unaltered versions but I don't see where you state you spent your money on those versions when they were released on DVD. Seems like a LOT of your whiners failed to put your money where your mouth was when you had the chance and since money talks there's not going to be another release.

The versions that were released in 2004?
Those were the special editions, with added crap.

If your intention is to act like a total jackass in every post you make, congrats. But you have no idea what you're talking about.
The so called originals released on DVD are a sad attempt by Lucas to trick us into thinking we were getting them in a semi watchable format. Might as well be watching on VHS because they're pretty much the same.
They're not even formatted for 16:9, no 5.1 etc.
So maybe next time before you run you're mouth you should actually find out what the #### you're droning on about.

This was my first post in the thread about the topic, my other post was a Wookie joke. You need to relax buddy.
As for the whiny loser/ignoring these comments, I wasn't ignoring them, I wasn't aware they existed. If what Cecil says is true though, not interested.

I'm sorry you said you wanted the original films in their original condition, right? Can you explain to me where in 1977 when there was no Episode IV A New Hope title that the fim was shown in 5.1 sound? Please, I'm waiting.
So now that you thought about it (or rather didn't) which is it you want. The films the way they were shown on screens (poorly lit, mono sound, scrathes, jump cuts, improper framing) or do you want the original versions altered to what you think they should be? Make up your mind or shut your trap.
These aren't a trick in any way. They are what is left of the first theatrical editions. you know the ones so many waste hours and days bitching and monaing on the internet about wanting. But when presented with the option to buy them, and sorry the excuse about not knowing they existed is pathetic as they were everywhere and reduced in price to below $10 each, you didn't buy. You just ran home to cry that they didn't ALTER the films to make them better, in your eyes. but I've seen many of your posts before, Flip, and I know how very very low I value your opinion on pretty much everything. So cry on while I enjoy Han being frozen in carbonite in 1080p with dts-HD surround.

If you're going to call a guy out on signing up under a new name (something he admits and has talked to the mods about) alteast be upfront about which username you were banned under. You're clearly someone who has been here before, probably multiple times.

I for one will buy the new set(s), but no way am I going to be paying $50/$100 for them. Wait until Boxing Week when I bet you could see them as low as $20/$40, the same goes for the LotR set.
Oh and the alterations are pretty stupid, but they are not enough of a change to stop me from buying the sets (IV-VI in particular). Lucas is obviously a control freak so I doubt the originals will ever see the light of die until he's six feet under.

Why does Anakin's ghost get to be young Anakin and Obi Wan's ghost gets to be old Obi Wan? Obi Wan got the short end of the stick. Yoda too.

I clearly stated before in another thread I've been around these boards a LOOOONG time. Following like many since 2004 when I first ventured into online chats. Just never posted before. Usualy I don't because there's so many internet ######s out there that getting into argument's with them is such an utter waste of time. But if you want to insult my posts with your utter lack of knowledge, or twist truths into your own theories like Flip has done, don't get your panties in a knot if I call you on it.

Because Alec Guinness is Obi-Wan, not Ewan Mcgregor. Mchregor is a decent actor, but Guinness gave the series legitimacy and will always be the real Obi-Wan in my eyes.
Ghost Anakin should of really just been James Earl Jones, but that could of been a bit awkward with him being their father after all... What's really funny is that Hayden Christensen can't even take a picture properly; God he was such a terrible choice for Anakin. Just look at his career after the Star Wars movies, crap like Takers, Awake, and Jumper. Choosing him for such a vital role in film history was a major mistake.

Even though I know he was lying, I find the idea that he was lurking for 7 years and got banned in 4 days, hilarious.

The explanation that I heard was that for all intensive purposes Anikan died when he was consumed by the Dark Side of the force when he became Vader.
Obi Wan lived his whole life on the light side of the force and carried on his older appearance when he went to the Force.
Personally I would have preferred that they kept AG image especially considering the actor that he was.
When they picked HC to be Skywalker the two reason's why they chose him were his physical stature, he's actually pretty imposing, and he had done some pretty strong acting roles in the past.
If I could change things
Phantom Menace, maybe make Skywalker a little older, which would mean that the actor that they did pick wouldn't have been there.
Less cartonny, even though Jar Jar Binks becomes the main reason for the rise of the Empire, he wasn't really a necessary character.
Attack of the Clones
The love story elements were necessary, we had to believe that Padme was the love of Skywalkers life. But Portman just couldn't deliver the lines, and HC was awkward in his role. I would have given Mace Windu more screen time as well.
Revenge of the Sith - some of the awkward lines would have been trimmed "Love has blinded you", reigned back the Vader Noooo moment. Maybe had a montage at the end of Vader killing a Jedi or two.
Now what I liked
Phantom Menace - the Maul, Obi-Wan Qui-gon fight was exceptional. Palpatine Sideous and the little grin when Padme announces that she's going home. The little details in the film, the invasion scene of Theed comes to mind.
Attack of the Clones - Again Palpatine and his manipulations, Binks brings down the Republic. The clone story line and the subversion of democracy. The last scene between Sideous and Dooku
Revenge of the Sith - The story of Darth Plageous the wise was mesmorizing. The march on the Jedi Temple, the opening battle scene took my breath away. The fight between Obi Wan and Vader was amazing, the fight between Yoda and Sideous. The smeakiness of Sideous during the seduction of Skywalker and the screw job on Windu.
The ending montage padme's funeral, the death star, Obi-wan handing the twins over to Owen and Beru.
I found that I could ignore the awkward cartoony stuff and focus on the fall of Anikan and the machinations of Palpatine, thats what made me enjoy it.
