Was wondering if anyone would mension this place, Desert Pita since it's in the hood most people don't go up there.... absolutely destroys anything i've ever had in this city hands down.... lived here my entire life.

I've taken friends there, none wanted to go due to the location, all of them are hooked.....

Oilfan#81: Any other good places in Edmonton you know of? I frequent Queen's Donairs when I'm up here because it's only a couple minutes away from my in-laws. It's also the first place that I tried donairs back in 2001 or so.

There is a donair place across from the Hooker Mac's though, just east of Glory of India. The nicest part of the ones he makes is the main pita is wrapped in Baladay bread, which is this crepe-like thing and then he grills it, making it crunchy on the outside. I ate lunch there today but had his yummy lamb curry instead of donair.

I do like making the pilgrimage to Amin's once a year or so though.

Babylon Qithara in Eau Claire Market.
I used to work upstairs at Eau Claire, and everyone in my office would eat there at least once a week.
Beware though, the line on weekdays at noon is ridiculous.
I would recommend going like 10 minute before noon, to get a donair in a reasonable time frame.

I haven't lived in Edmonton for 4-5 years now.....and Queen Donair was the one I always went to. There was this other awesome donair and shwarma place on Jasper avenue but I can't remember the name. Message the user "andrew". He should know.

Which part of town do you stay in when you visit? I can help narrow down some options for you.

I just went to the donair king here in halifax, which was apparently the first donair place in Canada.
MEH.
Where's the garlic sauce, where's the pickles, where's the tabouli?
There's more to a donair than just meat tomatoes onions and sweet sauce, imo.

Cedars Deli is awesome. I've only been to the one at Market Mall and I love it.

Those things are with the shawarmas.

And, yes, there is more to donairs those things. They need pita bread too.

Tazza in Bridgeland is awesome
Shawarma Knights on 14th ST and 16th AVE SW is also very good

Haven't tried anywhere else that compares to those two and those are both better than Jimmy's A&A in my opinion.

To me, Donair is the east coast version and Shawarma is the Mediterranean version. Donair King in Halifax and Shawarma King at Bank and Waverley in Ottawa are my top two. And Pita Express at Olympic Plaza fills the need when in town.
