Big T's big ass Elvis Platter will feed a family of 8 for about $95. Tough to beat that.

Vietsub Express on 37th St. SW, beside the 7-11 and across from the Rusty Cage.
Soup is huge and cheap, and the subs are cheap too.

One of my favourite things about living in China is the food. I eat out for almost every meal I eat, and it's delicious, cheap and usually pretty healthy.
I am in Yunnan province in the SW, between Vietnam and Tibet right now. The spices are like a mix of the spicy Thai chilli that is kind of light with a little of the Sichuan pepper that numbs your mouth and makes your tongue tingle. So much delicious food, and can eat a meal for two for just a few bucks. It's really delightful.

You really gotta stop going to the Chinese places you only see rednecks. Though I think you may have a little trouble ordering off some of the menus at those places.

I second this. I got very very sick from the manicotti. I'll never step foot in there again.

Third on the Fiore = garbage.
For Chinese, try Wok with Chan by London Drugs on Heritage & Macleod. If you go to Harbour City, try to get Sam (the old guy with the hair going white) as your waiter - just tell him what you want and they'll make it for you, regardless of the menu.
Second on the Jimmy's A & A - great value and very tasty.
For good Pho value, order 17A at Pho Kim (behind the Central Grand mall off Centre and 16th) - very filling.

Just having a $4.25 latte from Deville, holy crap is it ever good. No problems paying that.

You have to goto Chinese places a lot of Chinese goto. Avoid fast food places cuz that's just all not real Chinese and everything is served extra oiled and deep fried. Places like Imperial place in the NE, Bobby Chao's in the NW, New Dynasty in New Asia are much better. Chinese food at those places is much better and in general is pretty cheap in relation to other sit down restaurants.

It's not. You are just ordering off the Gwai Lo menu.
If you want some crappy chinese food. goto chicago, houston, or Orlando. So bad, my cooking is better.
We are pretty lucky here. Still no where as good as Vancouver or Toronto though.
My favorite chinese rest is Edgemont City. Don't even bother trying on the weekend unless you go at like 4pm. The best rest is New Harbour City but be prepared to shell out a couple of hundred bucks and 3-4 hours of your life. The place i goto the most is the Fat Kee noodle house but lately it seems not to be as good anymore, but it's still the cheapest in city.

Went to Nathan's once, never again. Thought it was utterly terrible value. I didn't find the hot dogs any better than going to IKEA for hot dogs. At IKEA, they are 50 cents. At Nathan's they are what, $4 a piece?

Agreed on Fat Kee, the place used to be of the best quality and was always very cheap.
Lately the quality has not been as good, still better then other places, but not up to the old fat kee standard.

I second this.
Anyone have any diamond-in-the-rough spots for lunch downtown that are great value? I find it hard to spend under $10 on decent lunch grub these days.
