Sharp is an interesting selection. He's not a franchise player (I wouldn't so anyway), but he has a very efficient cap hit number.

2nd rounder, at best, IMO.

I would have to agree. I also think the Giroux selection was rather premature.

So in the next round it goes from 30th team back down to the 1st right?
Probably a dumb question...

Yes, it does... so the people that made the last 5 picks or so should send a list through PM when they log off tonight, unless they know they'll be on in the morning.

maybe, I prefer that pick though... if this were an actual draft, I'd tip my hat to that ballsy GM.

I don't think Giroux was picked too early. He is a young player who is coming of a great 76 point year which was good enough for 13th overall (he got picked 16th overall which Patrick Marleau was in overall points last year just to give a comparison.) He's going to be taking over a bigger role now with the departures of Richards and Carter but he still has a great team and has the potential to build on top of his numbers from last year. I was shocked to see the pick myself but I think it's a great pick at the same time.

It was indeed ballsy, but I personally wouldn't aim to build a team around Claude Giroux. He does have a very nice cap hit for what he brings to the table though.

Giroux is the man. He was going to be my first round selection.

Don't get me wrong, I like the player, just don't really see him as a first round pick in this type of draft. In my opinion (which admittedly isn't worth all that much) the first round is to find a player you a build a team around, and as I stated in my last post, I don't see Giroux as being one of the 30 best players in the NHL to use as a building block.
He is young though, has a great cap hit and huge upside, so I can't say the pick was terrible, just not what I would have done.

Alright roster page updated. Lets try and get round 1 done tonight. Then I think once round 1 is complete we will start to see some movement, now that the rules will be in place.
Giroux is a solid pick, not someone I would think at taking at that spot myself, but I do think Giroux finishes top 10 in scoring this year.

I hate the Giroux pick because I was hoping he would drop to a later round. Love that guy.

I wanted to get Sharp and Bobby Ryan, maybe I should have reversed my strategy.
However, I would expect Sharp to be in the top 20 NHL scoring, if not top 15; so I am happy to get him at 22.
Kane and Toews may get more recognition, but I really like what Sharp brings every game.
