Default WEEK 9: Montreal at STAMPEDERS

WEEK 9: Als at STAMPEDERS

This is the first game of the season between the Montreal Alouettes and the Calgary Stampeders. It's always a good game everytime the Stamps plays Anthony Calvillo and company and I don't think this game will be different.

OFFENSE:

Calgary offense finally exploded against the Riders on Week 7. They scored 31 points in the first half and ended up scoring 45 at the end of the game. The Stamps had 315 yards offense and scored 4 touchdown last game. Henry Burris ended up passing for 298 yards. In the past 4 games, he has thrown 6 touchdown and only 1 interceptions.

Jabari Arthur was the Canadian player of the week on Week 7. He caught 7 passes for 92 yards and scored 1 touchdown, his first in his CFL career.

Our offensive line seems to be starting to gel together. Tony Washington solidifies his position on Left tackle (QB blind side) by not giving up a lot of pressures or quarterback sack the past two games. In fact, the whole starting OLine played well against the Riders until Right Tackle Stanley Bryant went down with concussion. Fortunately for the Stampeders, Stanley Bryant will be back in the lineup Saturday afternoon.

DEFENSE:

Defense is the 2nd stingiest in passing yards surrendered per game with 255.9 yards and they are 3rd in interceptions with 9. They are also 2nd in fewest first down allowed (137) but they are last in quarterback sack department with 10.

MLB Juwan Simpson will be back in the lineup after missing the past 3 games with knee injury. During Simpson's absence, Robert McCune did a heck of a good job filling in for him. Mc Cune will be back in his natural position as a Defensive Linemen against the Alouettes. LB Brandon Isaac will also be playing Saturday. Stamps had a scare he left Wednesday's practice with groin injury.

DB Keon Raymond made (maybe) the biggest defensive play of the year as he returned an interception for 117 yards for a touchdown, setting a team record for longest interception return. Keon leads the team with 3 interceptions and 2 of them for touchdown.

SPECIAL TEAMS:

Larry Taylor is 2nd in CFL return yards with 288 yards and lead the league in average yards per return with 10.7 yards average. He is also 2nd in combined yards with 881.

Punter Burke Dales averaged better than 45 yards per punt (45.2) for 3rd straight game. He is 2nd in league punting with 46.2 yards average.

************************************************** ****
This is going to be a big test for the Stampeders' defense especially the DBs as they are going to be playing against one or maybe the best QB in the CFL in Anthony Calvillo. Calvillo's biggest target this season are Jamal Richardson and SJ Green.

Game will be played at McMahon Stadium Saturday at 2:00pm.

Taking the father-in-law to this one. If he comes out in his Roughriders jersey I'm gonna drive right past him and go alone.

Big game for the Stamps. If they can get past Montreal, they face two very winnable games against a vulnerable Edmonton team. Win these games and suddenly they're on a six game winning streak and they're off to the races for the rest of the season.

It's definitely there for the taking. The front 7 is going to have to be sharp though. If they can get some pressure, I have full confidence the secondary will take care of the rest.

Should be a good one.

hahaha!! I can't blame you on that one.

MLB Juwan Simpson and FB Rob Cote will be playing today. I can't wait to see Nik Lewis and Dwight Anderson yapping at each other. Hopefully Nik Lewis will have a lot to say and do a replay of his Superman TD last year over Mark Estelle.

GO STAMPS GO!!!

I have a feeling this might be a high scoring game. Good hold by the defense to hold the Als to 3.

The Alouettes like to start strong, so giving up only 3 is not too shabby.

looks like Nik wrentched the AL pretty good. JR has got to get that ball secured away that was sloppy.

Boy the run blocking bas been awful at times this year. Als were in the backfield before Reynolds could even get to the line of scrimmage. Not a very promising start so far.

What pass rush? Stamps are at the bottom of the league in sacks.

Which is absolutely the worst thing against Montreal, AC will carve you up without any sort of pressure.

Do we have a 1st down yet? I think the time off has made the Stamps a little rusty.
