A solid chunk of Manhattan is evacuating (first mandatory evacuation in NY ever), and the subway's are being shut down starting noon tomorrow.....not necessarily surprised about that as the subways go tits up even when it rains normal.
I got out of dodge to Long Island today, but am supposed to be heading out on my honeymoon Sunday....we planned on a roadtrip up the east coast of New England, and it looks like we might have this skank escorting us for a while. I don't have indoor parking for my car in Long Island, so at the moment, I found a hotel in New Hampshire with a garage that it looks like we're going to ride it out in.
Good thing you got married last weekend. For my own sake I'm glad I'm heading there next week, not this one.
It's apparently not going to be a hurricane anymore by the time it hits the maritimes here in Canada...
Guess I'll have to wait for my first hurricane.
An Asian Guy goes to see his eye doctor because he’s been having vision problems. After the examination, the doctor says, “Well sir, I found your problem — you have a cataract.”
The man says, “Must be some mistake, doctor — I drive a Rincoln.”
Asians don't drive Rincolns, they drive Rexuses.

I'm pretty sure the Earthquake and the Hurricane are the Flying Spaghetti Monster's way of punishing those who held the world's economy hostage to avoid a tax increase for those who can most afford it.

Also worth noting: Irene is from the Greek Eirene, goddess of peace. Ha!
Not at al in the way of Irene, but I am about to take a direct hit from Super-Typhoon Nanmadol!
A "Super-Typhoon" is equivalent to a category 4 or 5 Hurricane on the Saffir-Sampson scale. Also, this thing is going to be moving much, much slower as it passes overtop of Taipei than Irene will be moving through New York.
Another key difference is going to be the SIZE of this thing. They expect it to explode in area over the next couple of days to cover 1.8 million square km. By comparison, Alberta is 660 thousand square km.

You're both wrong, it's the vibrations and wind from Buddha passing gas. Erm, Super Buddha that is.

The wife is going to be fine as the storm will stay well to the East, but my brother and sister in law and a good friend are in the direct path being in Wilmington and Carolina Beach.
Pretty good sized storm and there is going to be massive flooding.
EDIT - Nevermind, apparently this photo is a hoax.
queue the "i've seen a lot of shops in my time" pic, but that's pretty badly done. the shark is blurry and the water around him is a different color than the rest of the picture, hoaxers are getting lazy now

Not to make light of a 95mph storm and I hope you keep safe but a Super-Typhoon is the same as a major or cat4-5 hurrican with wind speeds of 150mph+. Nanmadol is a cat 1 according to the pic you posted.

Yeah, its strength has been fluctuating pretty wildly. It's bounced up and down between cat 1 and cat 4 over the last couple of days. Now it looks like it's going to swing south and not roll right over us.
It's funny, huge typhoon coming and no one cares even a little bit.
