It was the same economic stimulus that worked for the Americans coming out of the Depression - massive re-armament - the huge military spending created jobs and economic activity...
That is one reason the German industrialists backed Hitler early on - they knew he'd spend a whole lot on steel, machinery, chemicals, etc, etc...
Don't forget the promise of cheap labor.

Hitler galvanized his people with a simple message of revenge and regaining their lost honor. They were stabbed in the back by the other European powers and especially the French.
If Hitler had stopped after taking France, nobody would have cared all that much, and they would have secretly cheered Hitler on.

I always find it amazing that Germany was a beautiful country with a cultural history that hid their hatred and rage so well. They completely threw in with Hitler and believed him to a be a savior

A good report from Zeina Khodr earlier today on the fighting still going on in Tripoli. Wish I had Al Jazeera on TV as I've found them to be the best at reporting the news so far. Since then the journalists were freed but the fighting seems to still be going on.

Wired has a piece on the various weapons technology that NATO and the rebels used against Gadhafi. Very big contrast between the high and low tech. There's the oh so famous Toyota trucks that people mount machine guns on top of. Not sure if thats a old Toyota Hilux... those things are industructible. Does the Guardian count as mainstream media, or do you just want to feel more like the guy who doesn't believe everything that's told to him by the "MSM?" The fact that the rebel advance changed fortunes so quickly is pretty obvious testament to this, "MSM" or not.

National Post had an article on the front page today saying Canada had 733 strike sorties and was third behind France and Britian for contributions after the US pulled their jets out.
Libya: David Cameron and Nicolas Sarkozy host victory summit as scramble for oil wealth begins
Russia has finally moved to recognise Libya’s victorious rebels as Moscow seeks to muscle in on postwar reconstruction and to protect its economic interests in the oil-rich North African country.
As David Cameron joins Nicolas Sarkozy for a post conflict summit with over 50 countries, Nato and the United Nations in Paris, Russia dropped its opposition to military intervention in Libya and demanded that rebels honour lucrative energy and construction contracts signed by Gaddafi and worth billions.
The French newspaper Liberation reported on Thursday that it had obtained a letter showing that the rebels had agreed to give France priority access to 35 per cent of Libya’s oil.
Russia and China, which were both critical of the Nato intervention, will battle to keep their economic influence in a post-Gaddafi Libya in scramble with British and French companies for oil wealth and contracts to rebuild the war torn country.
They didn't know about that in 1932...
