I got my degree from the UofL in Management (the UofC equivalent to Business) and find it hilarious that people wear suits in their everyday classes. I don't think I ever saw a suit in any of my business classes, even for presentations. For presentations, most profs told the class to dress "professional" which meant collared shirt and non-jeans. I don't even know if I could take anyone in a suit serious if they were to talk in class. Even now, doing my Masters at the UofL, I still wear sweats to class. In the end, it's about what you know, not how you look.

To add to the UofC conversation, I had many good nights in the Den. Try to get in with someone who is/knows a bouncer for easy access. And enjoy BSD. You'll only have 4/5 of them as a student so make the best of them every year.

Locker registration is ongoing but I would like to know what people's opinions are in terms of which building would be the best to choose for getting a locker.

What faculty? I always liked the MS connector as it was always central to my classes.

Actually, I only ever used a locker for a couple years, found it was only ever good for holding my jacket

Oh man so much nostalgia. I cant believe its been almost 10 years ago... When lot 10 was $1.75 and you had to compete for spaces after 10am, the rock was surrounded by a large grassy field, the old school dark damp Den and Arcade with slurpees that contained either gods tears or heroin, waiting 30 minutes to use a library computer to check Hotmail or play games while others behind you were panicking with soon to be due assignments.

Edit: BTW some of you new grads or current students, does everybody use laptops or is it still mostly pen and notepad?

Haha I remember it the same way. I think jugs of beer were only $5.25 at the Den. Max's Cafe was fun, too.

As someone switching from Schulich to Haskeyne (with the mandatory detour through arts) I have to take all the business courses for first and second yea trough arts. It hasn't effected me yet but there are a few courses I know are only open to Haskeyne students. I assume if I went to talk to the registrar they could allow me into the courses?

I find in my introductory level and easy 300-level courses, most (75-85%) of the students use laptops.

In my advanced courses virtually no one does.

Would it be wise to get a lap top for doing work outside of class while at school or does the U of C provide enough public computers that there are usually some available?

Depends what you're in. Engineering has way more than we ever need.

You should have no problem finding a computer regardless of what faculty you are in. They just built a six floor media library to accommodate that "issue"- and I thought there were tons of public computers available prior to that.

I think having a laptop is a good idea, however, do not turn the wifi on and you would be fine. The amount of people playing WOW or on facebook is crazy during the introductory level classes.

During my night class for Human Resources I used to stream/watch Flames games.

Then I got caught (after about 5 weeks), yelled at and was never allowed to use my laptop again.

One can also easily note the amount of people who clearly do not make it past first year!

Take your notes on paper and type them into a computer later if you want. Reviews the material for you.

One of my classes last year ran from 5 to 7. The guy in front of me was always streaming Flames games. He wasn't caught, but during the 10 minute brake the prof gave us, everybody would huddle around his computer to watch...

Depends on the person and the class. I rarely went to class, like very rarely, and when I did took minimal notes and graduated with a 3.4. For most social science classes you're probably better off just reading the material yourself than wasting time going to class, at least that's how it was for me.

You don't qualify for bridge regionals by going to class...
