I think it is pretty cool that EA put Baertschi in the demo, drafted at #13 by the Flames and EA still put him in.
Having played the Demo I am fairly underwhelmed. The game is essentially NHL 11. I think it is an even worse upgrade than NHL 10 to NHL 11 was and that was awful.
The AI still seems dumb as ####.

One small aspect that I have really really enjoyed is how many rebounds you can generate.
The goalie doesn't suck everything in like a Dyson, and it is great.

That demo is some kind of brutal. That's what they did, and then chose to present to us, after a year. Ouch. A TON of the same problems from 11 are still there, bright as day.
If they regress from the demo to the actual release as much as they did last year this is going to be the most disappointing installment yet.

Wow, #### this game and #### EA. What a #### company run by a bunch of ####ing monkeys. I don't know what I am more pissed about, the fact I will buy this game, or the fact that EA chose to make NHL 10 again.
This is getting pathetic. If this is the final game (it will be), then this is atrocious. It is not only the exact game, but now it is even more brutal. Alex Burrows man-handling Shea Weber for god sake. Are you kidding me EA?
And the AI is just as ####ing stupid as before.

Demos always quickly remind me why I hate playing against the computer so much.
As well, the computer seems to be doing some sort of turbo, slap-pass ala NHL08. That'll get exploited in no time.

I'll wait a few weeks to see if the game itself has such a horrible AI. It sounds like it is still passive, timid, and stick with wing to D pitch and catch unless you're in a specific position in Be a Pro (and easy to abuse in Be a GM). Too bad...I was really looking forward to having the real Jets team too instead of my fictional Atlanta Thrashers replacement.

Its not "bad", it's just underwhelming. It still feels like NHL11 with an updated tuner to me.

After playing 5-6 games in Demo.
I do see some small improvements in shot accuracy, hitting and puck handling. Many "swing and miss" on 1 timer.
AI is a little better on D when it comes to blocking passing lane.
I mainly play G. The shot accuracy is way better now. Point shot going wild, 1 timer is not "laser guided" to the top corners, G push loose puck to corner.
TBH, NHL 12 is like what NHL 11 should be... while NHL 11 was NHL 10.5
haha

The game is much improved in my opinion. With the way EA updates and tweeks gameplay settings it will be more refined as time goes by.
I'm not blown away or anything but it does feel like a new experience to me. I have put countless hours into NHL 11 and I expect the same with 12.
Be a Pro is much more real now too, you can't just jump off the bench any time you want... you really need to earn your ice time which is fantastic.
Easily going to be worth $60. Not disappointed but not blown away.. Expected improvements and changes.

Only played 2-3 games last night on the demo, but I can say the puck physics off the goalie's blocker are much better, no more of that "puck bounces off blocker, above the goalie's head and then stops dead on his back" saves. It actually rolls off his back now and in.

That helps for sure. I kept setting the slap shot/one timer accuracy to minimum because it was painful having my strategy (crash the net + deflections) score 8-9 goals on a semi consistent basis because slap shots inexplicably hit the top corners. Often.
How is the offence AI though? As I noted earlier, in BaP, if you weren't in position, the player in the corner and the D would pass back and forth until you moved into position.

This is definitely an improvement, and I'll gladly buy it.
The puck physics are done well and hitting feels right. The AI is a LOT less passive this time around, and will take the puck into the zone. I have noticed my teammates actually back away from defenders in the slot and get ready to take a one timer. Stamkos dropped to his knees so he could tee one up.
You also can't fly by AI defenders with a push the puck ahead speed boost move anymore, they match your pace pretty well. They also clog up shooting and passing lanes fairly well
They've tossed in a couple neat presentation items - my player lost a stick, and when he went to grab one, a team mate was holding it out for him to grab as he skated by.
It's really fun to beat up Luongo as well, aha.

Well you don't HAVE to buy it if you don't like what you see.

I've typically got a new NHL game every 2nd year, mostly for the (albeit minor) graphical updates, roster updates and gameplay tweaks.
From what I've seen and heard, it appears to be NHL10 again with these changes. I like NHL10, so bring it on.

That's what I was thinking. If I don't like what I see in a demo (ie Duke Nukem Forever) I just cancel my pre-order.

I'm surprised to see how many people think the stickhandling, shot accuracy, hitting, poke checking and overall game speed are worse than NHL 11.
I'm still figuring out how to stop puck carrier effectively. But i think the overall gameplay is amazing.
Just hope EA won't tune the game to more arcade-ish after release because everyone wants big shot, big hit, super deke and lighning speed... :P

i'm liking this demo more than i liked the nhl 11 demo to be honest.
one beef i have, is when a cpu player is winding up for a slapshot, i poke check the puck, but he's able to get the shot off, no issue, which is annoying.
If they could have included stick physics (ie. sticks don't go through each other or through other players. Another season where getting the puck off a player is damn near impossible
