Default Ban pets from flights, doctors tell airlines

Quote:
“While airlines argue that this is a great thing for pet owners, the practice actually exposes our patients and their passengers to significant allergens that could make the journey difficult and occasionally (make them) quite seriously ill as a result,” Dr. Mark Shonfeld, from B.C., said as he presented the motion at the annual general council of the 75,000-member CMA in St. John’s, Nfld. on Tuesday.

Clearly the airlines place a higher value on the money they get for transporting pets than the health of those allergic to pets.

I agree with the docs, dogs and cats should be in the cargo hold rather than the cabin. With the exception being service dogs.

How about bears? Can we have them on our carry-on luggages?

As long as squalling children are also confined to the cargo hold, I agree. Otherwise, it should remain a free-for-all where only the strong and allergy free survive.

What about crocodiles?

Quote:
(Oct. 22) -- A crocodile on the loose is being blamed for the crash of a small plane in the Democratic Republic of Congo that killed 20 people after passengers panicked and stampeded down the aisle.

A lone survivor told investigators that a passenger had smuggled the reptile, whose size wasn't noted, on board in a sports bag. It somehow got loose on a domestic flight from the capital of Kinshasa to a regional airport in Bandundu, Britain's Daily Telegraph reported.

The panic started when a terrified stewardess "hurried" toward the cockpit, followed by passengers. That threw the small aircraft off balance, sending it into a field of thatched huts "despite the desperate efforts of the pilot," The Sun tabloid reported, citing an article originally published in Jeune Afrique, a French-language news magazine.

The crocodile survived the Aug. 25 crash but was killed with a machete on the ground. Details of the accident are only now emerging.

I am taking my dog.

I might feel bad if they also limit, perfumes/smells on people, stinky people, crying kids, sneezing and sick people, kids crapping their pants (was a great flight)

I am allergic to cats, however I would way rather have a cat beside me (that i can take an allergy pill) compared to someone sick 6 rows back in the plane.

Charge $2 for an anti-histamine. Airlines make money, people don't get all anaphylactic in my face. Win-win.

So you don't like people who wear deodorant and you don't like people who don't wear deodorant. You're obviously a very reasonable person.

I think we should ban the people who put their seat back. As someone who suffers from longleggis they make my journey difficult.

But they're putting the seat back to make room for their pets!

deordorant and perfumes/smells(body sprays) are completely different as is not washing before the flight.

You cannot tell me you have never smelled some woman's perfume or a man's cologne that was overpowering as they walked by or sat behind you? How many people have you smelled their deodorant as they walked by.

I agree. If you don't like not being allowed to bring your pet into the passenger cabin, don't fly.

Why? Do service dogs bathe more frequently? If you're worried about allergens then service dogs traditionally would be more of an issue because the breeds that tend to be service dogs are usually the ones that don't agree with people who have allergies.

I work with someone who has two young kids. I get sick via proxy thanks to sharing an office space with their dad. So while we're putting pets down there, let's put the kids down there too. They can play with each other, it'll be brilliant. Let's make a children's play area in the cargo hold, that's perfect.

They're both smells. All those people who think they're allergic to scents lump deodorant smells in with perfumes and colognes but they're not hypocritical enough to try and get BO banned from the office as well.

I rarely come across people who wear that much perfume or cologne. The strongest smell I tend to come across is that musty old lady smell. I don't know if it's 50 year old perfume or death getting ready to pounce but you probably know what I'm talking about.

As long as a kid is snotting and crying and sneezing all over, why shouldn't I be allowed to bring my non-shedding dog on board? She's quieter and can stay in her little cage the whole time, I just don't want her down below in the cargo.

Because kids are people and dogs are not. Plus, you can't determine beforehand which kids are going to be snotting, crying and sneezing all over but you can determine that a dog is an allergen to some people.

And if your dog can behave, why would you worry about it in cargo?
