You're probably thinking, "but Cecil, why would i act like a ######?". Well Cheerio lots of kids from Haskayne wear suits to school. I imagine mostly it is a requirement as part of business classes that you take. That's cool. People in suits look totally serious and ready for business.
The problem is your ######bag bretheren in Haskayne thinks this actually makes them real businessmen responsible for million dollar deals.
No joke, I was on the train a while ago and this guy in his gaudy pinstripe suit and D&G sunglasses was yapping loud enough for the whole train to hear how awesome he was and how his business deal was crumbling. He was acting like he just sat at home at watched Boiler Room and Wall Street back to back to back for a week.
Me and the rest of the train had to put up with this gong show for about 20 minutes. Captain dbag then proceeds to hang up, say "see you in class" and get off the train with his backpack in hand.
That's right. He was talking about a class he was in. This hilarious dbag isn't a business man at all, he was a ####ing student who watched the Social Network and thought he was the second coming of Eduardo Saverin.
So Cheerio, you may have to wear a suit, do business classes and even have some courses where a small business venture will be undertaken by you and your classmates.
But please, for the love of god, this does not make you an actual businessman who makes 7 figures and drives an SL500. It makes you a poor student who gets laughed at behind his back by the rest of the campus, who are all wearing pajama pants and eating ramen noodles BTW.
Thanks,
The rest of the U of C student body and the rest of the Haskayne students.

Don't worry most of the rest of us also hate these ######s and make fun of them constantly. We are not even close to the suit wearing ######s that everybody seems to think comes out of Haskayne.
As Rasta-Masta pointed out above most of us wear our PJ's and Ramen Noodles just like the rest of the UofC, except for the two weeks (final week of each semester) a year that we have to present our final projects to the class.
P.S. Hi Grady

Attending Schulich until 2013 (won't be there this year due to internship).
Petovello, Yanni, Kallos, and Nygren and are all great.
Avoid Rinker (she might have gotten better. It was one of her first years when I was in her class), Cooper, and Fedrico.
Oh, and I find the Noodle and Grill to be one of the better places on campus. The Specials are pretty good for filling you up and run 5.00-5.50 in price.

If you take MIS courses, Welsh is a super easy teacher...he'll teach you personally very little though.

Here's some practical advice:
- If you want to meet some new people set up some CP U of C meets, I used to do them and you can meet some great people.
- Never even try to watch hockey at the Den. If theres a game on, head to Moose McGuire's. Its so close you can walk there and actually enjoy catching the game.
- Students are generally cool, and people are people, dont equate someone as the personification of their degree no matter how useless it sounds (looking at you here Philosophy majors) unless they act like it. Also: dont act like it.
-Evening classes blow. Bring coffee, or a pillow.
- If you ask nicely, the Den will fire a couple of shots of baileys into your Tim Horton's for fairly cheap.
- Do not park in the Arts Parkade. That is the parking lot of last resort and its for suckers.
- Dont take school too seriously. Its important, but if you let it consume you the stress will kill you and you'll wind up hating it. When it feels like too much, chill out and have a few beers.
I got lots of this stuff, but if you decide to hold a CP meet at the Den or Moose's, well, as previous CP Meet President I might stop by.

This is the best advice I've ever received. Getting good grades is just one small part of University. If the difference between a B and a C on an exam is staying up 72 hours straight and wanting to kill yourself vs. getting good rest and having a couple beers, I'll occasionally take the C.
Best place to take a dump is upstairs by the prayer center/macewan ballroom. No one is ever up there.
If you can, take spring/summer classes. Campus isn't packed, it's gorgeous outside so parking and walking 10-15 minutes to class is no big deal, and getting a class out of the way so you can take 3 or 4 in a fall/winter semester once in a while is totally worth it.
Do an internship or a co-op. It's a break from school and you'll earn some good money so you don't graduate with any debt.
I'm graduating this April and I'm wrapping up my University career with two semesters in a row of 4 classes. Wednesday and Friday off every week!

This. Summer courses are pretty easy, and even if you are working there are sometimes weekend ones. 6 hours of class kinda sucks, but it is only for 7 weeks.
Or try and find a few block week courses to take.

Same here, except I only have 1 class each semester. It will be like heaven not needing to rush from work and trying to figure out how to make up hours.

I'm going to second that actually. I was usually busy working during the Winter semester so I took a fair number of Spring/Summer courses.
It sounds like the suck, but it isnt. First of all, nothing important is even offered in the Spring/Summer so you're usually just covering the 'well-rounded student' crap that they make you do.
Bottom line: Campus is deserted, parking is easy, tables on the patio at the Den in the beautiful summer weather are easy to come by, and the classes are basically a formality. You're taking electives in the summer when no one cares, grades are easy and its very laid back. I highly recommend it.
Oh good times, except that Thursden when I got so drunk I wound up climbing one of the trees that are just off the Den's patio and being pulled down by the staff. That was grim.
Oh yeah, and Thursden. Thursden is the best, get there early, get a table and get loaded with your buddies. I got lucky enough that I was in a group with a bouncer for the Den early in my first year. That was 5 years of never having to worry about the line at the Den on Thursdays or weekends.

Don't call degrees that you don't necessarily care for, "fake", this also makes you a ######bag.

I'm going to be finishing up my last semester in Haskayne this fall. One word of advise: every prof will tell you the importance of reading ahead before class as not to fall behind. In my first 1.5 years, I did not listen to them and unfortunately got the marks to show for it. After I started taking their suggestion to heart about half way through my second year, my grades improved drasmatically, but more importantly exams were much less stressful as studying is a heck of a lot easier if you're not trying to absorb "new material.
Devote at least an hour or two per day, everyday to studying and continue with this trend into exam time. It will be worth it.
Also, FNCE 317 and MKTG 317 are not actually that bad, despite what you will here from your peers. ACCT 317 was the most challenging in my opinion, but still very managable.
Feel free to PM me with any questions about Haskayne profs or classes.

Also, university is going to be some of the best 4-5 years of your life. I graduated in June of 2010, and now that I am working 8 to 5 Monday to Friday, I really realize how much fun it was. The workload isn't really all that bad, and hanging out at school with your friends between classes and meeting and admiring the great looking women that cover that campus really offset the minor stress that you feel during midterms/finals/etc.... Might have to do my MBA!

This is an amazing word, and I will henceforth claim it as my own to use in drasmatic situations.

Parking across the street from Haskayne is $5.
Stuffed buns from the bake chef are my favorite thing about university. I didn't discover them until year 4. Don't make my mistake.

It doesn't feel that long ago to me, but when I add up the years this happened about 12 years ago. Some really really white kid hosted a program and one day he decided to play this really hardcore black-empowerment music (like Black Panthers stuff). The chorus' were always something like "A white man's pleasure is a black man's pain".
