You're right, barking at somebody once a month isn't an issue. None of this is directed at a dog owner like you. We are talking about dogs that bark constantly, at all hours, on a regular basis.
Fair enough and I agree they are the worst owners ever. I guess I shouldn't have stuck my two cents into a topic that was not related to my situation. my bad.
The poor dog is barking cause it is alone and it is calling out for others.
It breaks my heart.

Question. Does the guy know how much his dogs are barking? Since he is not home. How would he know? At least leave him a note.
They're home and they know. But ya, I think I'll drop him an anonymous letter in the mail...now the question is do I try and make it sound like its coming from an authority figure (ie Bylaw services?)
If your kid starts to cry or scream please take them inside your house after 30 seconds of noise. I don't like hearing kids cry and I am sure people don't like hearing my dog bark. He is a yorkie so loves to bark while he is playing with my other dog or our neighbors. If it gets to the point it is excessive barking not a bark every now and then I will take him into the house. Would you take your child into the house if their crying, screaming, singing gets excessive?
Now wait a second here, hold on. Surely you don't believe dogs are equal to people, do you? You don't think your dog barking is comparable to the sound of human children playing, singing, crying, or doing anything else that people do. Right?
You are definitely right about one thing -- people don't like hearing your dog bark. If it gets to the point where you think it is excessive, it probably was excessive a long time ago to the other people.

Many years ago I had a friend who had two dogs. This guy was a great guy and he loved those dogs. Took them everywhere and treated them very well.
He talked about getting many complaints from neighbors and official letters from Bylaw but he never did anything about it. He even had to go to some hearings or something but nothing ever came of it. I know it would have driven me nuts to live near him.
My point is. I guess some people just don't give a crap about other people.
Jesus christ.... did you kill small woodland creatures as a child too?
Only if they keep me awake....

Hopefully a Great Dane, then i could use it for warmth till it cools then climb back out once it hardens, and then hopefully the bylaw offiicer will fine you for letting your girlfriend crap anywhere without picking it up...
The dog in question I was talking about is alive and well, and the nice owners even bring him in at night now.... I hear him bark during the day once in awhile, but when I had dogs... and will again I don't mind them barking ever now and again so I knew who was coming around.... They were trained really well nothign to complain about...
I believe there is no bad dogs or breeds.... just dumbass people who think they are owners.... it's a Privliage not a right to own a pet...
Now let me ask you, if your that stupid.... and according to the response i got here with my first post, some of you are..... If you got that letter explaining the fine is someone kills you dog, and explaining why.... would you risk leaving him out....just incase? The way I see it I did that poor dog a favor....
PS I can't wait to have a dog again, it'll be nice communicating with something smarter than most of you.....

It was excessive for Keeper in her first year of life, getting her kicked out of town, but then she enjoyed the next eleven years barking at nothing with nary a complaint . . . . . location, location, location.

People who make anonymous complaints are pretty spineless IMO. Grow some balls and talk to your neighbor. It will make the relationship with your neighbors better especially if you are polite and don't be a d-bag about it.
Making anonymous complaints just adds to the hostility between neighbors and I'm sure they let their dogs out of spite.

If you go see your neighbour; start by asking what the dog's name is. Follow up by saying something like "yeah, the other night he was barking his head off. I tried calling out to him thinking he just wanted to be acknowledged. Maybe it will work better to calm him down now that I know his name."
If there is any talk of complaints etc; mention that some of the neighbours had asked you if you knew who's dog was doing the barking.
All that helps keep it friendly and non-confrontational. Plus if you do have to get bylaw involved; you have already mentioned there are a few people concerned. He won't know who called; and likely won't accuse the guy who wanted to become the dog's buddy.

I don't see why. First of all, somebody who lets their dog constantly bark is the one being the jerk, not the neighbors that are fed up. Second, he already doesn't care about what people think, or he'd prevent this from happening all the time. Me going over there is unlikely to change this guy from jerk to considerate. Third, an anonymous complaint helps diffuse the responsibility and potential hostility from being focused toward me to about 10 other people which is good for me. Fourth, I already pay people to handle these problems in my taxes. Finally, there is nothing wrong with an anonymous complaint for no other reason than there's nothing wrong with an anonymous complaint. If I see an armed robbery I'm calling the police - I'm not going up to the criminal to let him know society frowns upon armed robbery and ask him to stop.

No I don't think dogs are equal to people at all. If my dog barks 3 times in a row he gets scolded and sent back into the house. People leave their crying kids having tantrums outside in the backyard and don't take them into the house and put in time out. They just ignore their crying and let them disrupt the whole neighborhood.
But surely because they are kids they are better then dogs so it must be ok

Yes.. you demonstrated so much intelligence with your first post. Clearly you're just misunderstood... don't listen to the voices in your head, try and ignore them and seek help.

Oh please.
Isn't a message board all about anonymous communication? And yet most of us still have a spine.
I think most humans would recognize that it is the content of said letter that would matter, not its anonymity.

Dog owners who have barky dogs know that they are annoying. If they don't have the nads to knock on their neighbour's door and prempitively apologize, then I have nothing against people making anonymous complaints.
There are just too many psychos out there that would not react well to a face-to-face discussion about their annoying little precious.

Have you made the complaint yet? The 311 operator can tell you if the dog has had prior complaints.

Not when I called 311, all she said was she can open up a report, I'll need to get a picture of the dog, and log for the next 2 weeks day and night when the dog barks..... she wouldn't tell me if any complaints thus far have been reported...
