I think that you've said that you're Asian I really didn't mean anything by it at all.

Not that it matters, but I am probably whiter than the guy in the video. And I know you didn't mean anything by it, which is why I posted the video to explain the point that privilege is invisible to those who have it. You did it without even thinking. Almost everyone does, because that's what's normal in society and has been for much longer than either of us have been around.

A decent device if you really want something bare-bones. There will be no more apps presumably, and no more updates. Price drops may make it appealing.

R.I.P
If anyone sees a good cheap TouchPad out there, post the details. I may still get one.

Now that we have the full story, I think adding the word 'Chinese' is totally relevant to the initial question. PIM is looking for an app that can record a lecture, translate it and then put into text a translated version of the lecture. I would love to know what app this is and would gladly pay a lot for it if it could do it accurately. I've been looking for something like this as well forever.

To answer your first question, I figured you were looking for something like 'Dragon Dictation' but it can't do the translation. Another app is SoundNote which records lectures only but allows you to write notes yourself. It then sync's the recording with notes so if you tap a word, it will go to that part of the recorded lecture. You do need to be pretty close to the lecturer for this to be effective.

Note sure if either one of these would help but they are the one's my nieces use in school and they seem fairly happy with them.

An app that takes english speech at a distance in an informal lecture environment, transcribes it to text, and then translates it to another non-european, non latin-alphabet language?!

I wonder how well it actually worked because this feels like Star Trek territory. Half the time I have trouble getting Google to understand what I am saying when I use the voice feature and they have put millions of dollars into theirs. An app that could recognize Chinese and do the reverse operation would be even more in the sci-fi realm to me because of the eight tonal ranges that can turn one sound into dozens of words.

Well we got an Ipad 2. Reallly love it, the only thing that bothers me is I wanted to watch that CBC documentary "the gangster next door" but of course need flash. I remember one member saying as how you could always find an app to get around flash (paraphrasing) anyone know if I could watch that documentary on the ipad?

Can't verify this since our iPad is not with me but wouldn't the CBC television app have this documentary?

I would be cautious buying one if I were you. From what I understand they have stopped work on the software as well. So no more updates to keep things current, bug free and secure. Unless you get a really good deal I wouldn't bother because the software is 90% of the experience. But I guess if you had some specific use in mind for it then it might not matter.

I just looked and don't see the cbc documentaries on there. I google'd it and ironically the top hit is an article by the CBC’s exec director of documentary programming on why the iPad will be the savior of the documentary.

For $99 how bad could it be?

If you're going to get an ass tablet, it's best not to skimp.

You have to be able to do something with the hardware. Would love to put a Linux distro on it even.

@ $99 it could be decent for e-books. Not sure what how much support WebOs has from the development community though.
