If I have VIP, do you think there is any point in going early? I'm not sure if I want to be front row for the movie, but wouldn't mind being close for the Q & A. Decisions, decisions.....What do you guys think?
|
I heard similar stories. People lining up since like 4 or 5 pm for a 730 show.
I'm heading down right after work so I'll probably be quite early but I don't see the point in lining up super early.
Row 1 or 9 won't make a huge difference for the Q&A and who the hell wants to sit row 1 in a movie theatre?

I'm going around 6... Guess I'll try and get row 9. Wonder if they'll have 2 lines: 1 reg, 1 VIP?
So it's just me and Cecil?

There was a delivery option for the tickets. Mine came about a month ago.

3/5 stars for me last night. The premise was great as well as Parks performance. I don't remember how long the movie was, but some parts felt rushed and could have been fleshed out more. And some other parts felt contrived or out of place. Some of it due most likely to the budget. I'm a lot more forgiving of comedies than I am of other types. And I think it showed more of where Smith's range is. Worth a rental if the subject matter is of interest.

I ended up enjoying the film more than I thought I would and the q&a less.
I found Smith's material for the q&a to be a tad redundant. One thing I love about smodcast and babylon is the spontenaety. The q&a though was people asking questions and largely Smith just giving the exact same stories that he's done already on smodcast and in his other q&a's. Still very enjoyable. Even though I've heard the story about the Phelps' several times I was still laughing pretty hard.
I kept an eye out for fellow CPers but it sounds like you guys were in the will call line. Which means you go the fancy tickets and I got the boring ticketmaster style tix.
I was the guy who was supposed to be the very next question, I was at the right hand mic, and then Smith called it a night.
I did have my brush with stardom when I sneezed in the middle of one of Smith's responses and he said bless you. It was funny the guy in front of me was congratulating me. Thought that was pretty funny. As if I'm pseudo famous because of it.
All in all a very enjoyable night. Right up until the point where I took the train back to Crowfoot at midnight and realized I had parked at the University .
Red State wasn't so much a horror flick as it was a thriller. And Smith is very accurate when he says it plays like a mid 90s Tarantino or Coen brothers film (without the skill that those guys have).
And a special shout out to the woman behind me, I was in row 2 on the right, who was with the big biker looking dude who was originally a bodyguard or whatever. It was the woman who asked the question from the middle mic stand. From the first moment of the movie, any time there were any cameos (Jen, Ralph Garman etc) or anything else that was related to the viewaskewniverse she felt it necessary to very loudly explain to her man who those people were.
Not even kidding. Ralph Garman got about 10 minutes of screen time in Red State. Every single time the camera panned by Garman she would very, very loudly exclaim, "It's Ralph, it's Ralph!". I wanted to turn around and tell her to shut the eff up, but then when the movie was over and I was her b/f, I'm kind of glad I didn't. Otherwise I may not be alive to type this post. Lady if you're on CP, if you wanna talk during a movie for the love of Christ please whisper. We're all Smith fans, we all know who the cameos were.

Yeah, the Q&A was kind of odd and redundant if you follow his work. And Damn that guy can talk, he'll go for an hour on one question

I had a ticketmaster sytle ticket, I was about 8th in line. I wasn't aware of these fancy tickets... I ended up front row, left side, aisle seat next to the mic. Was your question something about Star Wars? If so, I was right behind you as we were leaving

I was actually going to ask about what he would have done differently with a what Smith said would have been a more comfortable budget of $10m. Not sure if he had bigger plans or maybe he would have paid John Goodman more than like $5.
I also wanted to know if a SMod tour was possible. Jay and Bob, Smodcast and HBO on tour. That would be ####ing amazing to see Garman in person. But I think it is limited b/c of Ralph's KROC commitments.
The guy behind me was going to ask a Star Wars question I think. He showed me his Boba Fett tattoo while we were waiting in line. It was on his arm before anyone gets perverted.

Did you hear him at the end? Sounds like we are getting a HBO in a couple of months. Nothing confirmed yet though. I will be there!!

That would be AMAZING! I did hear him mention something about HBO but I missed it.
Hearing Ralph do the Mad Hatter voice, can't think of the actor he mimics, would make my day.
And Pacino. C'mon now!
And Heston. Aaaaaaaahhhhhh!

Row 6, left side, one in from the aisle. Wound up talking to some guy that just moved here from Ft. Mac. I think I was about 16 back in the will call.
I remember that chick from when Kevin was at SAIT last time. I think she wishes she could become "friendly" with Kevin.... What a suck up.
I think he already knows what he's going to talk about during he night and tries to 'segway" the question into what he wants to talk about.
Loved the movie! Definately a thriller, but had just the right amount of comedy here and there.
He was right about Ivy. I remember that part of the movie distinctly (which was tough for me after drinking 4 Hard lemonades and 3 tallboys of Pilsner...drinking at the movies FTW!) because being a mom, the way she screamed, it sounded just like my little girl. I almost wanted to run up and save her myself. And maybe because of the aformentioned beers; I didn't even recognize Jen!!!
Sooooo looking forward to October when I get my DVD and I can watch it again to see the parts where the audience's reactions drowned out the monologue and when I had to go to the washroom to drain aforementioned beers. I think I missed a fair bit.

That chick (who Kevin said must have a 'magic p_ssy' for her biker bf to move here) was SO f-ing annoying. I like the cute little way she wanted to inject herself into his life, and somehow thought it was relevant to bring some weak connection between herself and him, on a microphone, in front of a packed house. What a wipe.

I managed to catch him in Edmonton on the 16th...I really lucked out...went down hoping to buy a ticket from someone...but no luck...then the theatre staff brought the four people like myself looking for tickets and sold us VIP seats for $50 each. I ended up front row centre...
[In a Kevin Smith voice] "Here is where I was talking about my ****"
In regards to the movie, I liked it and it was exciting for sure, but you could feel the small budget as soon as the ATF showed up IMO.
And the Q&A was the big letdown...just LONG answers to questions bloated with content regular Smodcast listeners know well. I guess when you have done the same routine 25+ times it is hard to stay fresh. Still I felt that he let the fans down a little bit, since only a few were able to ask him anything.
He also spent a lot of time gushing about the Oilers/Edmonton...
Overall a great night though...I'm looking forward to 'Hit Someone' his 2 part Hockey movie
