Well I know it's all going to picks, but is it going to a large amount of picks. Like, are the Jays signing more of their picks than a team usually does or are they signing the same amount and paying them more (overslot picks, I believe is the term used in this thread).

The Rays are actually in the same boat with their #1, 3, 5 picks all still unsigned and only have 30 or so players signed, so the Jays are basically where the others are.

Typically though when a team has a draft like they did, they're likely not going to sign everyone, but they do have the money available to do so.

I still think that 2/3 of Norris, Beede, Comer sign at the minimum (Beede and Comer are my guesses)

Can you elaborate? Did we pick a bunch of really good guys who want a lot of money or something?

Normally a team will take about 7 or 8 high schoolers and 12-15 college players in the top 20 rounds. The high schoolers typically take more to sign because they can go to college and possibly raise their stock and sign for more (it's a risk)

The jays took something like 18 or 20 high schoolers in the top 20 rounds, with only a small handful of college guys.

That's part of the problem, as the rest of the guys are all demanding a million plus in most cases, because talent wise, they should've went in the top 50 or so but slid for whatever reason. The Jays basically took all those guys that fell and are now having to pony up the cash for them. That's why even if they don't get them all signed, they'd be further ahead than taking safer picks.

23 of the remaining 1st rounders that weren't signed coming into today, are still unsigned, and only about half the supplemental 1st and 2nd rounders have signed.

This may mean little or nothing, but I'm told the gap between the Jays and Beede right now is over seven figures.

I'm hearing that #Vandy recruit, and #bluejays supplemental 1st-rounder Kevin Comer will be joining Tyler Beede at Vanderbilt, not Toronto

I know that an education is important, and I am well aware of the seasoning these arms get going through the college ranks - but my god, the risks involved with going back to school, and the possibility of ending your baseball career with zero dollars in your bank account, to me, is awfully scary.

Personally, I take the financial security and run. Reminds me of Shane Battier returning to Duke for his senior season.

^^ No kidding.

Turning down $3M when you're that young? You could pay yourself a 6 figure salary for the next 30 years! Just dumb.

The anticipation is killing me.

Edit: I'm keeping up on ShiDavidi and Keith Law's twitter along with the HF Blue Jays discussion thread.

Jose Fernandez and Travis Harrison have signed. This should set the price for Cormer, Beede and Norris.

Most team's top picks are also in the same boat with not signing. Usually only 4 or 5 per year don't get signed and right now we're still at 23 still on the table.

I have a feeling Norris and Cormer sign, but Beede returns to Vandi.

#BlueJays 7th round pick Christian Lopes has stuck to price tag of well over $1M, looking beyond unlikely.

Jays' previous offer to Beede (21st over all) was $1.54M ... same bonus as the A's gave Sonny Gray (18th) ... Jays offer now at $2M

A few of those signings that are coming through should set the market for guys like Comer etc.
