And I'm not defending Barton, but at least on his dive there was actual contact made. Gervinho's dive was brutal. I'd like to see guys get suspended for blatant acting, whether it be to draw a penalty or a red card. I know that the ref didn't bite, and a yellow may have been coming his way anyway had things not gotten silly, but I think that the diving needs to be dealt with even more harshly.
Barton was lucky to get just a yellow though, for sure.

Personally, my only complaint is with Barton only getting a yellow. I think Arsenal have as much as a right to complain about Barton only getting a yellow as Newcastle does about Song getting nothing. In the end, I think Arsenal will get the short end of the stick as Song will, and rightfully should, be suspended but nothing more can happen to Barton.

After reading Arseblog this morning, an interesting question is circulating in my head: Should Arsenal have been awarded a penalty yesterday after the Barton-Gervinho incident? Barton was cautioned, which indicated a foul occurred, and it took place in the box. As such, should Arsenal have been awarded a spot-kick for being fouled in the box?
One might say that play was stopped because it was a confrontation between two players but Gervinho's slap took place after the whistle was blown no? Just some food for thought/discussion.

Not if the foul he received the card for happened after the whistle had gone, it would be like giving a penalty when the keeper gets a "foul" yellow card for time wasting. The result of the play was a Newcastle free kick due to the dive, everything after that was just post whistle affairs.
However If it can be determined that he was carded for a foul that took place during the run of play before the scuffle then there may be a case.
In this situation I would have to say Arsenal fans are just stretching for more reasons to blame the ref for the draw, there was no reason for a penalty.

So Cesc to Barca is agreed finally for 36m, just need to sort out personal terms (can't imagine that takes long....) and Wenger is holding a press conference tomoro
I hope he absolutely tears Barca to shreds for the way they have acted over the past 2 years

Like I said before, the only thing I feel hard done by is the fact that Barton only got a yellow and that is all he can get. I think the penalty issue is simply interesting as it looked as though the initial dive was not going to be penalized as play was allowed to continue. Barton's actions are what caused the stoppage in play no?

One of the replays showed the ref running up field, and he wasn't signalling advantage, so yes, technically it was the Barton incident that stopped play. I would have loved the ref to blow the whistle and card the dive, or at least signal advantage. That same replay shows that the ref had no idea what was going on behind him initially (as Barton "helped him up"), so I think that opinions of the assistant referees weighed heavily in the discipline, particularly for Barton. I kind of wonder if any of them actually saw it.

Samir Nasri has labelled Arsenal fans as "disrespectful" after chanting against him at Newcastle on Saturday.
The France midfielder, 24, has yet to sign a new contract, despite being offered an extension, and so could leave on a free transfer next summer. Nasri has been linked with a £25m move to Manchester City, although Arsène Wenger remains hopeful the playmaker will stay, particularly after the sale of the club's captain, Cesc Fábregas, to Barcelona.
The 24-year-old did not feature in the opening Premier League game at St James' Park because of illness, but was the subject of abuse from some sections of the travelling support, who questioned his loyalty and labelled him greedy.
Nasri, who is suspended for Tuesday night's Champions League play-off first leg against Udinese at Emirates Stadium, used his Twitter account to hit back. He wrote: "I heard what the fans were singing about me on Saturday and it is really disrespectful because I'm still a [sic] arsenal player."

Nasri is also a cash holdout. Lets see if he plays on Tuesday against Udinese, then we'll know if hes going anywhere.
Arsenal are in serious trouble if they lose Nasri, having lost both him and Fabregas their midfield will be effectively gutted of all creativity and then the service to RvP will truly suffer.
Its nice to see that they're returning to that 'Gooner' mentality though.

Is he? I didnt know about that.
Heres an interesting question; if hes suspended but still on the gamsheet in order to serve out that suspension, does that still cup-tie him?
I dont know.

I am honestly not sure why Mancini always plays so negative against the PL bottom feeders.
You are playing Swansea and you start Dzeko as your only striker and leave Aguero and Balotelli on the bench, while playing two defensive midfielders.
Really the rest of the league has to be happy that the man was not sacked this summer.

Looking forward to Swansea out of Wales being in the premier league this season, the first non England based team to do so.

It is too bad they had a rough debut today, but they did have a strong opponent in Manchester City. Their keeper made some sensational saves, despite letting a few in.

I think they'll be ok. I prefer being Swansea and losing at Man City than being QPR and losing at home to Bolton!

Swansea actually had the majority of the possession, and played fairly well at times. But it was one of those games where you felt that it was only a matter of time before they'd be broken down, and then the floodgates would open. But definitely better than 4-0 to Bolton.
