Default Madden '12 Thread

Best-selling sports series gets released at the end of the month. I swore myself from buying any new editions after the last couple of years but somehow got roped in again this year and slapped down some coin for a pre-order. The difference for me this year, however, is that I'm actually expecting some pretty big things from the game.

I'm mostly an offline player so the additions to Franchise and Superstar modes have me pretty geeked. For 360 players, apparently the game will be Kinect compatible.

I'm excited for the new one. I got every Madden from 03-08 but didn't buy it for the next couple years because I thought the next gen ones were junk. Got Madden 11 this past Jesusmas & didn't really start playing it until the past couple months, its gotten a LOT better since 08.

Sounds like some good new editions on the new one, I'm especially interested to see the additions to the zone D.

the game, especially franchise mode, looks pretty wicked this season. the performance and consistency enhancements, within a game, as well as game to game, is just an unreal feature.

i haven't bought madden in a few years, but this year, i might just get this game, and avoid nhl

I've been addicted to NCAA Road to Glory mode...I have a stud RB, a great SS and a good posession WR on a team that won't pass the ball.

Might have to pick up Madden to continue the quest for greatness haha.

I'm surprised this comes out so late this year, is that just due to delays because of the lockout (dragging feet for more updated rosters due to late FA start maybe?), or just the way Madden rolls now? I remember back 6-7 years ago when I was still in "buy Madden every year" mode, it was released in late July. Then later it was early August. Now its not till damn near kickoff.

I'm interested to see what the new QB composure (or whatever they're calling it) feature will be like, where your QB can get rattled from a slow start depending on who you are. NCAA had something similar (still could, haven't played one since '09), where if you threw a pick and guessed the wrong D play on that chart afterwards, your QB would come a bit unglued and start sailing some balls next series. Cool feature.

EDIT: One last Q, about crowd noise. Does pumping up your home crowd when you're on D actually affect the opposing team at all? I know in older versions it didn't (Madden 03-08), but I switched to NCAA for a few years and it actually does in those. Just wondering if I really need to be mashing the "pump up crowd" button before every single snap on D at home, or if I'm just wasting my time.

Its usually released 2nd week of august which would be this week, due to the lockout and roster moves it's now end of august. The last few madden games have been extremely disappointing. It's like the flames since the lockout, one madden is defensive next one is offensive no balance. I hope they get it right.

The franchise mode has been garbage for several years; I wasn't gonna buy this one until I saw all the stuff they're including.

-bringing back player roles.
-expanded training camp rosters and Cutdown days.
-improved draft and free agency.
-the ability to actually play defense.
-defensive players handing off assignments.

And there's Hillis looking like a tank on the cover... I'll be buying it for sure.

One guy I'm totally going to miss in the new Madden on franchise mode is Reggie Bush with the Saints. Say what you want about the guy in real life, but on Madden IMO he's the best offensive player since Vick with the Falcons. So much speed, sickest cuts...it almost feels cheap having him on your team (as did Vick back then).

3rd & long, RB deep wheel routes every time. Led the league in rushing and receiving for me one year. You will be missed, virtual Reg. A lot more than I'll miss the real deal in black & gold..

Nah, I try to keep the roster legit, at least for the first season anyway. Like I was saying above, it almost feels cheap to have him on your team. The amount of times he's bailed me out of 3rd & very long - in situations I probably didn't deserve to convert - is crazy. I'd probably actually become a better player without him on the roster in the long run, get rid of that safety net when I get myself in trouble. Doesn't mean I won't miss him though

Looking forward to it. I've been buying since 04, took a break in 2009.

I liked the old version where you controlled everything in franchise mode (ticket prices etc) but it also took forevvver to get thru an off-season. Last year the off-season I could fly right through. I however wouldn't mind having back some of those things. Also the crowds last year were brutal, there would be so many empty seats during a game (even playoffs, I dunno why).

Looking forward to it though. Re-building a franchise isn't very difficult so I do the fantasy draft and draft the worst possible team and try to build through the draft, takes few season to get a winning team.

Oh and I love the draft feature of finding "A" potential players even in later rounds but the top 5 usually has waaay too many busts.

If only they'd start putting all this innovation into the NHL series. Madden gets WAY more in-depth than its hockey brethren.

I stopped buying into Madden when I started scoring 107 pts in just 5 minute quarters on the hardest difficulty. Granted this is when I was playing last gen consoles (Gamecube to be exact) but watching that vid in the link it still looks like player control and the movements of the players look off. It doesn't seem to have the same flow as the NHL series has with it's players and I still see a lot of the basic animations from the older Madden editions. I like the idea of consistency enhancements and I think it looks amazingly polished but until they work out some of the issues with how the players look when they are moving and how easy it is to score points (I have played some later version just haven't bought them, and it is still waaaaay to easy to rack up points) I think I am going to be passing up on Madden. I will wait until some reviews come out though before I make a final judgement as to whether I will finally get back into playing this franchise again.

While I agree to some extent you can't deny what the NHL series has done over the last 3 - 4 years of development. The NHL game you are playing today is a far cry from when EA was putting out button dekes and 20 - 0 games with no defence expect for the constant unrealistic hits. I think NHL has come a long way personally and though I wish more advancements were being made to the game for the 2012 edition I am still generally excited to see how some of the changes being made to this years instalment pan out.

I'm not denying that the NHL series has made improvements in leaps and bounds.

I just wish the same sort of effort put into creating new, deep features in the Madden series was reciprocated for the NHL series. Granted, the Madden series probably outsells the NHL series handily (and I can't find figures either way - I'm solely going off of the fact that the NFL has a much bigger piece of the pie in the US) but you can't blame me for wanting it.

Ya, not to take the thread off course or anything, but I don't get all the negativity towards NHL 11, at least for gameplay in vs. mode. Smooth, looks good, can dangle, can play D...what's not to love?

Back on topic, Madden rulz.

Gameplay in vs is okay, it's the rest of it that is beyond broken.

I haven't picked up Madden in years, but I might do it this year. The depth of dynasty coupled with the gameplay refinements is going to be tough to beat. I've played NCAA the past few years and I get bored with the dynasty mode as recruiting is such a pain with little reward, seems like Madden will make the off field stuff more enjoyable.

So I got my early copy of Madden 12 tonight (along with $25 Papa Johns gift card!) and just about to give it a go. I won't be able to really give my impressions or give answers to in depth questions until the 26th due to embargo. Nevertheless if you got any requests on what you want to know about the game post them in this thread and I'll post my response then.
