Why do all Greenpeace protesters look so dirty and unkept? Is it some sort requirement that you have to look as dirty as possible in order to be respected in Greenpeace?

If you are clean-cut, you are working for the Man.

I quoted THEIR words. Period. I even linked where they said it. No idea what you are on about.

Bump...

So just over a year to the day...
http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/Gr...494/story.html
Quote:
Greenpeace has filed formal complaints requesting an investigation and disciplinary action for alleged physical and mental abuse, as well as possible criminal ill-treatment by corrections officers against protesters following their arrests last year.
Quote:
Fred Bleau of Montreal, who was one of nine Greenpeace members initially charged but later had his charges dropped, said the guards subjected them to degrading strip searches, threatened him and his colleagues that they would have bones broken, had to share cells with other dangerous inmates, and said they don't like French people.

Quote:
"In the remand centre they were strip searched for no clear reason, other than for the purpose of degradation and humiliation," said Hudema. "In some cases, the strip searches were quite evasive, with rough searching of anal area and grabbing of genital areas."

Isabelle Charlebois, also of Montreal, gave a similar story about the treatment at the holding jail.

"What the guards were doing and the way they were talking to us was very aggressive and degrading. They were trying to humiliate us ," she said outside court. "Some of us have had physical abuses and other more mental abuses. But in general, I think it was abusive
Greenpeace'rs are wussies, and to be fair, no one likes the french.

That's a lot better than strip searches that are invasive.

To MMF's post...

Don't these hippies realize they're in a place with CRIMINALS and they're in the same place because they were charged with a CRIME? Its not some posh hip hostel they're use to living in....its jail.

Clearly they've never been arrested before, lets see if I remember this. Grab your left cheek and your right cheek, pull em apart squat and cough.

And the poor babies being put in cells with other inmates, my heart is beating purple pee for them, clearly they're only willing to protest as long as they can go back to their apartments right afterwards with the Starbucks in the lobby, because they're such hero's.

Them crawling all over the Calgary Tower and hanging their garbage from it extremely angered me. As a born and raised Calgarian, I really take it as as personal sign of disrespect. Maybe that is irrational, but it is the way I feel.

However, reading what our boys in blue allegedly did makes me proud. Now these losers can fly back to the welfare state called Quebec, and tell them what happens when they fly to Calgary to bite the hand that feeds.

Whats humorous is the day they were all found guilty of mischief they lodge this ridiculous complaint. I guess whatever keeps Greenpeace in the papers is good for their coffers.

Can't say I agree. I'm born and raised Calgarian, and if those allegations are true (which no one will know for sure because none of us were there), then that's embarrassing behaviour from our police force.

To clarify, CPS weren't the problem in this complaint...it was purely corrections officers and Solicitor General.

So the poor little darlings expected to be treated like lesser criminals? Here's an idea... If you don't want to be subjected to "evasive" strip searches, and threats of being put in a cell with dangerous inmates, then don't go committing crimes that you'll get arrested for.

I don't give a fata what your message is, the Calgary Tower is private property, and a city landmark. A bunch of yahoos doing a B&E (that's break and exit) and hanging on ropes and endangering police trying to get a situation under control 600' in the air, deserves and anal probe with a night stick.

If those losers want to protest oil, they can walk to Calgary to do it. That'll get some legal attention.

I have my doubts since Greenpeace is an organization that requires attention to its cause, its just as likely that they're exaggerating things to get sympathy for their cause.

Greenpeace always wants to be seen in a sympathetic light because its good for their fundraising efforts.

Since the intake areas of the remand center are all video recorded, the truth will come out fairly quickly.

If I remember remand procedure properly, you're pretty well always going to get strip searched at some point during booking procedures, and the intake cells are general cells so you could be put in the same cell as a murderer or rapist or someone who shoplifted or got arrested for driving drunk.

I don't know why the guards would abuse them for simply enacting their right to remain silent, since the guards wouldn't really give a crap, they're not in the business of interrogation.

So just to clarify, and hypothetically speaking, if the Calgary Flames scaled the Tower and unveiled a huge poster that said "GO FLAMES GO!" in the same fashion as Greenpeace, you wouldn't mind them being subject to excessive anal probing, yes?

Probably not going to happen, because the Flames would contact the management of the Calgary Tower, probably negotiate whatever fee they needed to pay, and not put themselves needlessly at risk and cost the police and others time and money to pull off a stunt.

In other words, the Flames would follow the law and show some respect.
