Due to budget constraints we ended up replacing all of the sub floor and laying down a laminate, and although it still looks great and doesn't creak anymore, I am still a little upset for cheating a bit and not going with hardwood.

You learn a lot renovating older homes.

The guy that owned it before her dad did a lot of his own renovations and did a poor job of it. For instance in the basement the guy spliced old house wires to new wires. So I had to pull it all out and replace it all. Lots of half assed work. He also painted the windows shut so I don't know what I'm going to do about that. I also have to get a big spool of coax cable and snake it correctly through the house. Comcast drilled through the wood floors when they installed the cable for the previous owner.

Do anyone have a good remedy to kill poison ivy?

I've also spent hours raking around the shrubs to get rid of the pine needles and years of dead leaves. I'm trying to figure out what plants to put around the house in the plant holder areas and light the 150 meter driveway.

More pictures of the yard! I love seeing the super lush yards from the South. It reminds you we're a wee bit on the dry scrubby side up here.

It's not much right now, the front yard on the other side of the driveway is pretty bad. It wasn't taken care of and is pretty much weed infested a covered in dead branches and leaves. The part that you can see is sod but there is about another 100 meters to the road. I've got a ton of work ahead of me. I have to clean all the foliage up and then kill the weed/crabgrass then put down some heavy shade type of seed. I think I'll wait until I get some sort of lighting down the driveway before I seed it since I will most likely trench low voltage wire down the driveway

Today I installed another light. This time I did the dining room and added a nice light.
Old

Here are what the wires looked like in the bedroom too.

New light off

New light on

Yes I know the place is a mess, we still have plenty to unpack yet.

That looks like tar wrapped NM, no ground wire, probably 50's vintage. Better then knob n tube, but not much. Make sure you have the hot and neutral correct or you can get a zap changing bulbs.

Last week we went up to Indianapolis and while we were gone we had the kitchen floor replaced.
here is the old tile

and the new tile

Since the tile was replaced the cabinets look like garbage. (they did before anyways) the previous owner painted them, and well he did a crappy job. I plan on getting new cabinets for the kitchen, Dark maple with a Dark marble vinyl looking top. I would love to get real marble but the cost would be way too much.

Keep the pictures coming. I'm entertained by all of your work. It's cool seeing it come together, and it makes me glad I'm not in the middle of doing some of it.
