Basically next year, we'll have 8/9 positions filled (no 2B), the rotation + half the bullpen signed for less than 70 million give or take a couple mil. If we up our payroll up to 100 million, we could easily fill the remaining holes that we have without many issues.

Baseball picks are not nearly the same guarantees as NFL, NBA, NHL.
I am not saying the Jays are dead in the water but they have a uphill battle going against 3 better organizations.

The Jays at least have the advantage of being able to pay their players to stay. The Rays owners haven't shown a willingness to do so assumingly because the fanbase down there is awful. Not that the Jay fanbase is stellar, but they would fill that place for playoffs no doubt.

3 better organizations? NYY,Bos,____ ? Tbay has yet to retain key core pieces, we seen this in Seattle (addition by subtraction), guess what? It drys up eventually (not proud of this -wish all teams could support 80Mil. payrolls, I dont want my team succeeding by others failure to draw/make money). But, I'd be more afraid of a Baltimore rebirth than TB at this point.
and Dear Torontonians: I can't believe you people at all. How patient you are and continue to be with the Leafs and Raps, yet how 'tough' you are on the Bluejays. If you didn't like past management and losing, you should have filled every Halladay start for the past 3 seasons and then took 4 days off, this year and last, you have an amazing talent in town and still, attendance is unacceptable.....dont understand at all.

I understand it totally. It's as simple as summer and having other things to do. There are 80+ home games. While tickets may not be as expensive as the Leafs or Raptors, they're getting a little expensive to go to multiple games now. Also, look at the size of the building compared to the ACC. At least they're getting as many people. It's just filled to the same percentage. Also, I can say on behalf of most Torontonians that they've been floored by what AA has been able to do and are trusting him more than the other big 3 GM's in the city. Simply put though, a Jays game isn't an "In" thing to be these days likely due to the supply demand in comparison to the Leafs/Raptors. No biggie though, it'll come when they're playoff contenders.

"Will", there are media types that already place the Jays farm system at #2. Pro roster is steadily improving....
When they are ready they will add more key parts.

Despite having the following great players play for the first 80 or so games (EE, Rivera, Nix, McCoy, McDonald, Davis, Patterson), the jays have the 5th best offense in the entire league.
Replacing that group of 7 with Rasmus, Snider, Thames, and Lawrie should improve that even if they don't perform so great.
The main area that the Jays need help in is in the rotation. This season, we've only had 2 decent starters and a bunch of up and down performances from the rest. Depending on Cecil and if his velocity is back permanently or not will make a huge difference. We do need another top end starter, as well as maybe another solid 3rd/4th starter. After that, just fill in the bullpen and it's all good.
It'll just depend on what other cards AA has up his sleeve, but we're extremely close to being one of the very top teams in the league.

yep. plus they need a legit closer.
As for the Tampa comments in the above posts here is an interesting article....
http://toronto.bluejays.mlb.com/news...s_tor&c_id=tor
"Getting toe-to-toe with Tampa Bay was the first step, and the Blue Jays have done that. Now they're aiming higher, thanks to a lengthy series of shrewd moves. "
"We can compete with them [Boston and New York]," club president Paul Beeston said in January. "What we've got to do here, we've got to build this team up. We raise our revenues, we raise our expenses at the same time and our salaries. ... We should be a city that can have $140 million, $150 million in the way of salaries. We could support that, and that's the direction that we're headed."
Which is to say: Look out, Rays. And Yankees. And Red Sox.

Apparently Bautista for Votto was discuess briefly and the Jays wanted the Reds top pitching prospect and other pieces. Both sides of course, said 'LOL NO'

Its measured by Runs Scored.
In terms of AL, the Jays are 4th best. 3 of the top 4 are in the AL East (Boston, Yanks and the Jays).

The Blue Jays pitching staff looks like a staff thats traded away two of their top 3 pitchers and didn't replace either guy at the major league level in the deals. Lets face it what could that team have done last year with Roy Halladay? Add a 20 game winner to a staff that had three others win 14 games and a 10 game winner like Morrow.... But for years the Jays hoped something like that would happen when Halladay was around and it never materialized.
This year Cecil who stepped up and gave an unforeseen win total have battled consistancy issues, and they never did properly replace Marcum in the rotation.
So I'd say the pitching is still a work in progress and honestly that is what will hold the team back in the next couple of seasons. Romero is a good #2 starter in my opinion, Morrow could be, but I'd peg him as an AJ Burnet like #3 due to his consistancy. Cecil could be a good #4...but the ace isn't there. So thats the piece they have to try and find. Yeah a bat would be nice, and it makes sense money wise to spend on a free agent bat, and load up the assets to trade for a younger pitcher.

yep I agree.... Jays need another top end starter.
Jays have said all along they will spend.. (i.e. the article above has Beston quoting a 140-150m payroll).
I would expect the Jays will add a #1 pitcher when they believe the roster is ready to compete with the Red Sox and the Yanks.
Not sure a bat is required... Jays have enough Offense.
Personally I believe the area of need that is the greatest weakness for the organization is the closer. I believe they have 17 blown saves or something like that....

We need another ace pitcher badly. Hopefully a package with Snider/Arencibia/Gose can be enticing enough to acquire a young ace pitcher.

Why package JP ?!?!!?!?!?!!?!?!!?!?!?! He's a good piece! Agree with moving Snider, lots of talent but very inconsistent - luckily he's young so teams will take a chance on him.
