These ######ed side stories that turn the supporting characters into the lead characters are just brutal. Waste of an episode.
Marie's side story that ended up getting Hank connected to Gale's murder?

Seriously? Hank was already friends with that guy. We already knew about the notebook and the detective working the case said that he didn't want to give the notebook to Gomez because then the DEA would take over (ergo coming to Hank with it was logical). You've got all the required components. You don't need half the episode focusing on a rehash of Marie's shop-lifting problem. You think that listening to three bogus stories Marie made up was interesting TV? Really?

No, I don't think it was that interesting, but it wasn't useless. I don't think that Hank gets that case file if that guy doesn't interact with Marie.

Yeah I completely agree with Ark's assessment of the episode, it was the definition of a filler episode. There was very little progression, and anything that did happen we all assumed would happen anyway (buying the car wash and Hank looking into the case).

The only story of any interest tonight was Jesse being unable to handle Gale's murder, and being alone. He is more of a ticking time bomb then he ever was before, and will surely get busted at seasons end.

Also where the heck is Gus? I know he won't see Walt, but he is one of the better characters in the show. Less Marie and Skyler, more Gus and Mike please.

How about this: Gomez has the notebook. Looks into it and it seems like something to do with "Blue Sky". Hank is his best friend. He knows that Hank would be interested in any new developments in the case, so he comes by and gives it to him. That is so simple and it doesn't waste 30 minutes of what should have been an episode focusing on more important things. Namely, the power struggle between Gus and Walt. That's what this season should be about.

Anyway, I still love this show and I have little doubt that this season will get much better. I just hope they don't stretch the story arch and fill it with pointless filler (any more than they already have). Here's to them redeeming themselves next week.

Yep, it wasn't great to see that story play out again, but it shows her frustration with Hank and yeah, if Marie isn't busted, that cop doesn't go to Hank. Remember, the cop went to Hank and mentioned how he was calling in a favor after doing a solid for him and Marie.

I don't think the show can focus solely on Walt and Jesse. This is what made the previous seasons so good. They also need to establish what thesw characters are doing so when they are thrown into the main action again there is some background. I think Marie's klepto tendancies might end up with her stealing the wrong thing from someone.

Any Gus returns would be towards the end of the season, I think for season finale climax excitement.

Wasn't there a brief shot of Gus sitting in his car or was that Victor's replacement?

While the open house stuff was annoying, I really liked the whole Skylar getting the car wash storyline with the exception of the predictable phone calls scene. No way Walter would think it wouldn't work and his paranoia was out of place.

Can't say that was an enjoyable episode, skipped through a lot of the drawn out Skylar and Marie parts. Hope this season can turn itself around

They went a whole episode without Walt Jr. getting breakfast. This show is going down hill.

first few episodes of every season have always been pretty slow, setting up everything for the payoff in the 2nd half of the season

Especially in these shows with only 12-13 episodes per season, BB, Dexter, Mad Men... I dislike when the first few episodes are paced so slowly.

The sneak peak for next week's episode seems to imply that some action will take place, so let's hope things start to pick up.

That's why I think I might just try to hold off until the end of the season, and watch them all in the span of a week, like I just did with the first 3 seasons.

You allow yourself to enjoy the slower episodes. The episode in season 3 where Walt spent the entire 45 minutes waxing poetic and trying to catch a fly was brilliant... but I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it if I had waited a week for something crazy and exciting to happen.

Breaking Bad to HBO for Season Five?? Not likely says this article, but the show is being shopped as AMC and the Breaking Bad folk can't come to agreement as of yet.

I kinda disagree with that. Season 3, we had the Mexican twins and we knew they were coming after Walt and they were killing anyone in sight it seemed. Season 2 started with the Tuco stuff, and Season 1 got off to a great start.

I'm on the side that this season has definitely started off slow and I don't think that's the norm for this show.

I'm okay with the slow start when it's building some character and story, but I think the payoff after three episodes so far has been disappointing.

I still love the show and will watch every episode, but there's definitely been a big difference from the starts of Season 1-3 to the start of Season 4....IMO of course.
