I'm not sure anyone who leaves dogs in the garage of some home they rent out should be referred a breeder.
Akita's can be a little nutty/bitey in general, but I don't really blame them in this situation. Then again, they'll probably be put down anyway.....

Some how you are construing me saying human mothers don't attack others based on proximity into me saying that no species does this. I have already confirmed above that I recognize that other species do, but yet you believe that I think other animals don't protect their young?
Do you have a vendetta or something? Why are you twisting my words?

I am just trying to educate you on how a mother will protect its children. Even the domesticated ones. So you knew bears will do it. Now you know dogs will do it. Right? You didn't know that before. But you know now. Right?

You really are full of yourself eh? Now you want me to thank you and give you credit for correcting your own misunderstanding and filling this thread with a bunch of drivel as a result of it?
Now you're even twisting your own words.
The only education came from this post: http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showpos...1&postcount=17
In an effort not to fill this thread even more, I'm done responding to your "education".

Hate to hear about stories like this, but definitely some blame needs to go to the couple, not just the owners. My dog is extremely friendly and well-liked by other dogs, but I'd be very cautious about taking him to meet another dog on the other dog's turf, unless it was a very controlled situation. Anyone who's ever taken their dog out to an off-leash area and seen the way that some dogs can interact in unexpected ways should know to exercise caution. New puppies, owners absent, entering the dogs' enclosed space... it's all a recipe for disaster. Here's hoping that the animals are saved and neutered.

I am not full of myself. I am sick and tired of the uneducated uninformed lazy people who do not take the time to think when dealing with animals. Again and again we hear of dogs being put down because of stupid humans mistakes. Of people walking in bear country without the proper precautions.
Do you have children? If somebody is walking a dog and your child wants to pet the dog what needs to happen?

Not all dogs are like that with their puppies. My friend's sheppherd just had puppies and she seems pretty indifferent to anyone touching them. She definitely watches, but she is trained very well and is very trusting.

And? The guy said he wasn't aware that all animals would react this violently. That's not general knowledge, maybe not advanced knowledge but still not something everyone inherently knows. You decided that acting like a summers eve was the approach to educating.

Yeah I doubt a cocker spaniel would attack either, at least not to the extent these Akita's did. From the little contact I've had with an Akita where me and my daughter walked one for a neighbour or rather he walked us, it's a special dog that won't be controlled or trained well by the inexperienced.

Brilliant work around. Although I'm a little concerned at your familiarity with the specific brands... Then again I caught on.

I've always believed you should not own a pet that is capable of easily killing you. Not everyone agrees obviously, but if you do own a breed like an Akita, then I would hope you would educate yourself and understand the tendencies, the dangers, and learn how handle and train the dog properly.
Sadly, many people are very casual about owning a pet and are too dumb to realize that in any K9, there is a wild side that never goes away. Some breeds are much more prone than others, and a breed like an Akita is incredibly strong, fast, and can be extremely fierce and violent. I blame the owners 100%, but sadly the dogs will likely pay for the owners stupidity.
I feel so sorry for the couple that was attacked, the physical and emotional scares will haunt them for the rest of their lives.

I agree 100%. Just to add to that, but some breeds (like Akitas) have been genetically engineered through selective breeding over generations to be dangerous. It's true that part of it is training and how the dog is treated, but some breeds simply have a lower margin of error when it comes to raising them because of the physical capabilities and the genetic aspect.
I feel bad that the dogs will have to be destroyed now, but they probably never should have been pets to begin with. Even dog training experts will avoid certain breeds.

Absolutely. There are some breeds that will simply snap and attack, not related to how they were trained, or raised, or any of those factors. I have heard so many stories of a dogs attacking children especially, and the owners described the animal as the "sweetest, most gentle dog you will ever meet". Well sure, but then you find out the dog was pit bull or another dog that is build like a *hit brick house and if it decides to, it can and will rip to pieces and you can't stop it.
Some dogs just simply SNAP, for no apparent reason. I know of someone who had their dog turn on them, it literally tried to kill him, and he owned the dog since a puppy and loved the dog and treated it like royalty. The police had to shoot the dog, or it would have tried to kill the officers as well.
