Why is that anyways? Is it because the episodes are generally more expensive to produce?
I dont know for sure, but I have always assumed that with it being a single channel, they can get more audience by having a larger variety of shows to draw people in, and then use their in station advertising to keep them.
For example, - You hear Breaking Bad is a good show, so you start watching it. The you see advertising for Mad Men (or whatever other shows/movies AMC has) , that your idiot brother in law wont shut up about so you decide to check it out etc.
If they had 22-24 episodes like a 'regular' station, then it would give them less hooks to get people in.
I could be totally wrong though, never really looked into it.

Watched all 6 episodes one night a couple of months ago. Looking forward to catching season 2 as it unfolds.

I didn't like the whole storyline of them going to the CDC or whatever it was called. I think it could have been done better and less cheesy. And don't tell me "well that's how the graphic novel went", because I don't read those things and don't really care. Cool show, but I wasn't a fan of the last couple of episodes or so.

That's the thing.
Spoiler!
In the graphic novels we still don't know how it started and CDC was no where to be found.
I think (hope) they've realized it was a mistake by introducing CDC and will be going back to what makes the comics so fun. A group of people doing whatever it takes to survive.

Exactly!
I just finished comic 14... just awesome, awesome stuff.
Spoiler!
I really hope they focus on the prison storyline this time round... not sure if they want to kill off everyone that dies in the comics, but I think that along with the psycho from that town nearby... would be awesome to see.
^^^ I don't think so. I think the guy you are thinking of was a lot older and bearded. Not that the beard is a tell all, perhaps he shaved and was bitten by a Z while applying some aftershave. You can NEVER let your guard down!
I'm still undecided if I'm going to watch this any further. I will probably end up doing so because what else is there to do on a Sunday since this doesn't conflict with Breaking Bad ... but meh.

What shows conflict with any shows nowadays with PVR's etc?
The show had some major cheese last season, but showed some major promise as well.
The first season had a mishmash of freelance writers, no dedicated writing staff. It was what they (Frank Darabont, Robert Kirkman) had to do because apparently no one wanted to commit full time to a 6 episode season that no one knew was going to get picked up. Basically it seemed most writers had one foot out the door already.
Darabont and Kirkman have this entire season mapped out this time, looks like they've learned from mistakes of season one.
Less cheese (bad explosions, weak acting from those terrible sisters) and more bad ass Zombie survival.
I find a lot of the acting rather suspect, men and women, but it was decent enough that I will give it another go. I have to say, the preview posted earlier of next season looked pretty good.
