Although yes, the bombing of random civilians in an abortion clinic would be considered an act of terrorism. Uganda's anti-gay legislation is not an example of an act of terrorism. I am not familiar with your reference to the killing of media members, but that sounds more like murder, not terrorism?

I'll abandon this tangent now so the thread isn't derailed any further.
It really depends on how you define terrorism. If you simply define it as blowing stuff up or killing lots of people at a time, then no those examples don't work. If you use the actual definition of terrorism which is "The use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims," then those examples certainly fall under the umbrella.

Uganda's legislation, in my opinion, is a prime example of state terrorism. The killing of members of the media by Christians (i.e. Alan Berg) was done to intimidate other media members, so I would consider that terrorism as well.

Seriously? Christian Identity, KKK, Army of God, Westboro Baptists, etc. None of those ring a bell?

Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God. That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt. Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors. "The LORD your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him." (Deuteronomy 13:13-19 NLT)

There are reasons behind every attack, right or wrong. These guys just don't kill people to go to heaven to get their 72 virgins or whatever it is. I'm sure some do, and I'm sure others are so mad about how they've been treated in Iraq, Afghanistan.. having their land stolen..etc that they want to act out and get what they perceive as revenge. Religion wouldn't play a role in those attacks, but all you hear in the media is Islamic terrorists because the guy has a beard and is easily recognizeable as a muslim.
There's a difference between believing all attacks are caused by religion and having your first suspicion aimed at the group of radicals who are responsible for a large number of public attacks in recent times.

You hear that because these Islamic terrorists do it in the name of their God. They also have a set goal of setting up Muslim countries governed by Muslim law. To not report that would be failing to report half the story.

Unfortunately our sources were right. At least 80 killed at Utøya. Hard to find words to describe the tragedy #oslexpl

Some photos emerging from the island. Bodies strewn across the banks in one, another grainy one shows a guy dressed in a cop uniform standing in the shallow water with what looks like a rifle with a few bodies, one appears still alive putting his hand up to protect his face.

disturbing.

Yes the KKK practiced their racism in the name of God. They were in fact a terrorist group. Perhaps you moderate Muslims could learn from us on how to isolate and minimalize groups such as these.

The Army of God I know nothing about. What acts of terrorism have they committed?

The Westboro baptists are not a terrorist group. They claim that God is bringing judgment on America. Free speech allows them to function. I wouldn't want them as nieghbours but, they aren't to be feared.

This hits pretty close to home. I have a brother who lives in Norway, and my nephews are the same age as those kids gunned down.

Devastating.

I wouldn't be surprised if many of them drowned or froze in the water while escaping.

I feel terrible for all those people. Makes me sick.

Sounds like the this is the guy who did it:

I know, what can you say? It's unfathomable that people can do this at all, let alone to children.

Absolutely horrible.

How does a person get to the point where he believes this is the right course of action?
