Been running the "unofficial" OS6 on my BB 9700 for months now. Love it.

Official release of OS6 is available for the 9700 now using the Desktop Manager. If you haven't been using it, OS6 makes your phone feel brand new.
highly recommend spending the hour to update it.

I have the 9700 but somehow my buttons don't work when I install it. I don't understand... weird.

Two RIM produced apps that have been recently released:
Blackberry Traffic:
Not just a traffic app, more of a GPS app. Very simple, and slick.
http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/13110
If you're in Beta Zone, there's a newer version that adds a view.
Blackberry Protect:
Similar to the Mobile Me "Find my Iphone" app (which saved the wife buying a new Iphone 4 after we tracked it down after it was stolen), it allows you to remotely lock, wipe and track, via RT GPS, where your phone is if you've lost it.
http://appworld.blackberry.com/webst.../20844?lang=en
Works a lot better then the 3rd party apps like SmrtGuard as far as UI and just overall feel, likely because it was produced by RIM.
Both are free apps. Blackberry Protect is a no brainer to install, IMO.

I am actually a little disappointed with OS6. The Browser is annoying in that because of the memory limitations of the 9700 I now get messages, especially when browsing CP that the page is too large to load then it shuts down. The fact that they eliminated column view for browsing is also annoying as I found it to be the best way for viewing forums.
My other pet peeve is that I can't just start typing a phone number from the home screen to dial any more.
Overall the experience is definitely better, but still some kinks to work out, IMO.

This is pretty brutal. It is happening far too often lately as well.

You still can.
A quarter way down the screen, just under the search bar the numbers will also appear. It's very tiny though, again... annoying.
The "dialing" screen isn't as nice too. Just not as sleek and professional looking as it used to be.

I downloaded Blackberry Protect after seeing this thread
I love it, it will not only backup your information but allow you to remotely see where it is using GPS, it will ring you phone if you can't find it, or display a message across the screen.
All great ideas, I'm happy with this app

Had an idea!

Any free app available for the BB that allows you to remotely print files on your BB like PDFs, Excel file, etc, etc?

Yup, me too. Love my Captivate. It isn't perfect, but it beats my old 9700.
Looks like I might be getting a BB for work though...great, 2 phones...

For anyone interested (not that there are many left like myself):
But for Rogers the two new BlackBerry phones are available now, I just picked up the Bold 9900 myself this afternoon but I believe this is for all carriers asides for Telus which should be released tomorrow.
I picked mine up from Sunridge Mall Rogers Plus kiosk...didn't seem like that bad of a deal $250 for the upgrade ($150 with a 3 yr term).

Honestly I'm really enjoying it...the new OS 7 is much smoother and faster than the 6.
IMO the biggest upgrade is the keyboard, they took an already wicked keyboard and made it better. Screen is larger, the touch screen is a nice feature now of course.
Camera is 5MP, internal memory is larger 200MB now, a bit lighter and a lot thinner.
All in all, impressed considering a lot of things...and the price point isn't bad whatsoever either.

Lost my 9700 at the Flames/islanders game last week so I picked up the new Torch 9810. Excellent phone and all the problems of OS6 seem to be solved by OS7 plus more onboard memory. Touch screen with slide out keyboard is nice. I was debating going to the iPhone dark side, but after being told that there would be absolutely no returns if I didn't like typing on the touch screen or how email functions, I decided to stick with BB. Pretty glad I did as I really don't care ll that much for typin on the screen, although I keep trying in hopes of getting the hang of it...
