Well considering there aren't likely to be any on the Heat, and there are a whole lot more then 14 on the Flames (and every other NHL club) I still don't understand.

(Not you, him).

OK maybe it is difficult... I said, there is 6-dman pencilled in and the 7th D spot open... and, 14-one way contracts... and, goaltending... so if the first part of that is defense, the last part is goaltending, the 14-one-way contracts would refer to which position?

I apologies for your lack of clarity. Though that number includes PLL and Ivanans so it is a bit of a stretch. But I won't argue with you to much as I have similar concerns over prospect opportunity on forward.

Though it doesn't pertain to Brodie. I think there are good opportunities on D.

Sorry. I just sprained my ankle and I'm in a pissy mood. I'll stop being a sarcastic a-hole now.

I don't know why, but I think he's going to be traded or demand a trade. He did have some beef with how he was handled in the AHL last season.

Where would he slot in if he did make the team? 5th-6th guy? consistent PP time?

Also, what are some reasonable returns if he did get traded? 3rd round pick? would second be out of the question? he is a promising young D-man.
1. If he wasn't making the team, he would be foolish to 'demand' a trade at this point in his career. He is a 4th round defenceman drafted 2 seasons ago who got a little bit of NHL time this season. Yes, he is talented but I think in the AHL he even realised he was not ready for an NHL roster spot. If not, his agent better tune him in, because he will not get far as a 21 year old prospect demanding trades.

2. In the very rare occurance that he did want to be traded, he is worth an early 2nd to me. 4th round pick is bumped upo 2 rounds for being as NHL close as he is and the skills that he accels at. If you ask me his value right now, I would not take less then a late 1st rounder or ealry 2nd round pick due to what he has done so far. Is he worth it? Debateable, but as arguably our top prospect or very close to, that is what he is worth to Calgary today.

lol where in the world did this come from?
Demanding a trade? What.

He didnt get along with Playfair to start the year last year, but then as the season went on he grew and rounded out his game. Listen to some of his recent interviews.

Irving having considered taking a job over in Europe
First I heard of this but than I found it in this article. Guess I missed it.

Quote:
Leland Irving admits to feeling a tad stressed last month when the Calgary Flames signed fellow goaltender Henrik Karlsson to a two-year contract extension.
OK, maybe a great deal of stress.
After all, Karlsson serves as the backup to starter Miikka Kiprusoff. With that job filled, Irving is clearly destined for another season with the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Heat.
"Obviously, at first I was pretty frustrated," Irving said Tuesday from Abbotsford. "I didn't know what to think."
Quote:
Together with his agent, Irving mulled over an offer from a pro team in Europe, but stuck with the game plan constructed by the Flames. On Tuesday, he signed off on a one-year, two-way deal worth $600,000 US if he plays in the NHL.

Actually if he doesn't make the team next year (12/13), this (playing in Europe) would be a good plan as he wouldn't have to go through waivers and we'd still retain his rights. What Giordano did could turn into a good plan for other prospects.

Irving isn't ready in my opinion. I think 2 years more to develop is perfect for him.

Irving will be a UFA (Group VI) at the end of the 12-13 season unless he gets 28 NHL games (with more than 30 minutes played) before then. If he doesn't make the Flames next season his rights are most likely gone unless they convince him to not explore the open market and re-sign.

Sometimes I miss the bad old days when players were team property for eternity.

Brodie could have made the team before they resigned Babchuk. What role could he possibly play now that we have a #6th Dmen PP specialist. The team could have replaced from within and now I dont really see a spot for him on the team.

If Brodie makes the team the key for this guy is to vastly improve his defense in his own end. He simply was not ready last season.

There is no role for a 1 dimensional dman on the team, he has to be able to play at both ends.

Why would the Flames trade him? Makes no sense at all...

Why would he demand a trade, what has he shown to proove he is NHL ready... last time I checked last year was his first year as a pro....

Sounds like Brodie needed a kick in the pants to get his head straight in the AHL.

Once he accepted why he was sent down, he turned his game around and played allot better.

Sure the guy can win a role with the Flames.... I would think if he makes it, he would be the 6th dman.... For a rookie that is fine.

Brodie would have made the team before they signed Babchuk, Smith, Wilson and Henry

Brodies's body of work justifying a spot on an NHL roster was 3 exhibition games.

Robbie Schremp had more far better exhibition games than Brodie.

If Brodie was NHL ready he would have dominated the AHL like almost NHL star Ander Erikkson did in his AHL season 45 pts in 64 games.

Brodie 34 pts in 68 games does not show he is anywhere close to stepping in and being a succesful puck moving PP d-man at the NHL level.

Carson and Mikkleson have put up better numbers at the AHL level in their very limited time there. If either one of them somehow ends up with the Heat they would be expected to put up more than 34 points in a complete season.

With the addition of the 4 new offensive d-men to the Flames Organization he has dropped on the organizational depth chart from 4th behind Bouwmesster, Gio, white/Babchuck to 7th or 8th behind Butler, Smith, Wilson and Henry and maybe Carson.

Brodie needs to figure out that a 40-50 pt season as a top 2 d-man for the Heat is what he needs to get a real look in the NHL.

To be fair Brodie put up 34pts on the worst offensive team in the AHL so that has to be considered.

What a pointless post. The heat werent an offensive team. How does a D rack up points if the forwards struggle to score at times.

He was very well spoken, and very polite. I missed the first part, but I think I got most of it... I'm sure it will be up in the audio on demand section soon.

These are highlights of an interview from May, and there certainly wasn't any indication of him being unhappy or desiring a trade IMO. He specifically stated that not making the team was a possibility and that if it happened he realized what he needed to do to improve.

Main reason he was sent down last season was to improve his defensive abilities...

If he gets cut and sent down to the farm once again... reason for the demotation will be his defensive game.
