In Washington, Sen. Jay Rockefeller, a Democrat from West Virginia, urged an investigation into whether Mr. Murdoch's News Corp. had violated U.S. law because of the British paper's activities.
If there was any hacking of phones belonging to 9/11 victims or other Americans, “the consequences will be severe,” said Mr. Rockefeller, chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation.
Every day there is something. Today, Brooks has been arrested. This was possibly a tactical move because this is likely to keep her quiet when appearing in front of the parliamentary committee.
And just now, Paul Stephenson has resigned as the Metropolitan Police Commissioner.
I doubt it will make major waves over in North America, but it would be interesting if it affected the Fox News here in the US. I doubt it will, but you never know.
Fox News has gotten to the bottom of the scandal... by equivocating the hackers (News Corp) with hackees.
You gotta love how deep the propaganda flows on this channel.
Also note that the "expert" talking with Doocy is not, as you may have thought, an expert on internet hacking or something similar. He owns a PR firm.
This is a god send for mainstream/moderate republicans in the long term if it cuts Fox News down some, I'm guessing everyone in Washington outside of the dingbat Tea Partiers are hoping/working towards bringing Rupert down.
He apparently had a history of drugs and drinking. Foul play was definitely involved, but there's no way to prove whether a drug OD was accidental or not.

Updated at 4:01 p.m. GMT, 12:01 a.m. ET] Video footage shows Rupert Murdoch's wife, Wendi Deng, lunging towards attacker.
Just before the attack, Murdoch said it was right for newspapers to campaign to change the law but never to break it. He cites the example of his father “who was not rich but was a great journalist.” He says his father Keith exposed the scandal of the World War I battle at Gallipoli “which I’m very very proud of. I would love to see my sons and daughters follow him.”

Least significant event? Not sure I'd say that. It has taken down the UK's top cop along with several other major people that play in political circles. There is even a chance this takes down the Prime Minister.

Anyone who thinks his death is just a coincidence is totally wrong. The sad part is no one will be able to prove otherwise. Sends a pretty good message. Eff with the elite and you will die.

Could also have been a suicide. I don't believe that the police were paid off to such a degree to cover up a murder, although a murder made to look like suicide isn't out of the question.

Dr David Kelly found that out the hard way as well.
Unfortunately, this is the least significant event of the day, but guess where the lion's share of 'news' reports will be about?
How do you figure?
Ernie beat me to the punch, but he's right. Not only has this screwed up Murdoch's bid and possibly his empire, but it's taken down high ranking politicians and public servants, is dogging the Prime Minister, could possibly put some of these people in jail, and is having ripples in the American news market.
Least significant? You could argue it's not the MOST significant, and I would agree, but it's sure up there.
EDIT: Oops, I see this has been cleared up, my bad. I missed the same post, or at least didn't contextualize yours.
