Default The Franchise: A season with the San Francisco Giants

I know there are some Giant fans on here, but the series is quite similar to the HBO 24/7 with the Penguins/Capitals this past December.

Just watched the first two episodes this morning (was on Movie Central last night), and I must say it is done to the same quality as the HBO series. Very good insight and some great footage from the clubhouse and field. I'm interested to see how it plays out, as baseball is a long, mental grind. The first episode already touched on Posey's injury, Ross/Huff slumps to begin the season, and the decisions that go into spring training. Good stuff.

Next episode is July 20, at 10:00 pm on Movie Central.

They're doing it again.

Amazing statistic going into today

The Giants have not scored 7 or more runs in any game at home this year, their home record is 29-16.

In contrast the Blue Jays have scored 7 or more runs in 13 home games this year and their home record is 21-24

They have won nine of their last 11 and stand 16 games above .500 with a 4 1/2-game division lead. Both are season highs.

In fairness, I think a lot of this has to do with playing at AT&T Park. It is a pitcher's ball park, where no team hits many home runs or scores many runs. The air is cool, and the ball does not travel. I'd like to see where the Giants' offence ranks on the road.

They could use 1-2 good bats, without Sanchez and Posey playing. Belt is putting pressure on Huff to produce.

The Giants sent minor-league right-handers Henry Sosa and Jason Stoffel to Houston for Keppinger.

Keppinger was hitting .307 with a .755 OPS in 169 plate appearances for the Astros this year, after starting the season late because of a foot injury. In 40 plate appearances against left-handers, he had a monstrous OPS (1.137) and will arrive just in time to start today against Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw.

Sabean and Astros GM Ed Wade discussed a Keppinger trade last week but put it aside as the Giants concentrated on a bigger-impact deal with another team - not believed to be for Mets outfielder Carlos Beltran.

Fans also need to be realistic about a deal for an impact hitter such as Beltran, Houston's Hunter Pence or Minnesota's Michael Cuddyer. Sabean said the market for such hitters is hard to identify, and the market for catchers and shortstops is nonexistent.

He pledged to continue to work toward a deal because the Giants believe Arizona is not going to fade, and because "we think we need the help. We really do."

Great match-up this afternoon - Kershaw vs. Lincecum.

Yes you are right. Just looked, the Giants are 27-25 on the road and have scored 7 or more runs in 10 of those games.

Keppinger is in the Giant's dug-out. Oh, my good goodness gracious! Of all the dramatic things I've ever seen. Keppinger standing right in the Giant's dug-out. Keppinger is a San Francisco Giant!

Can't believe I haven't heard of this, thanks for the heads up! Giants are surprising me a bit this year with how well they've done with Posey and Sanchez out. Great pitching really is a cure-all.

And, for that matter, is the Giants' reported interest in the Rays' B.J. Upton little more than a way to send a message to the Mets? The Giants are believed to have the Twins' Michael Cuddyer near the top of their list with Beltran, and Upton wouldn't seem to fit into the category of hitter as Beltran or even Cuddyer, who is uncertain to be traded as the Twins are still hoping to be buyers not sellers. Should Cuddyer become available, he more than Upton could hurt Beltran's trade value since he's a more similar player.

Beltran-to-Giants trade agreed to; Beltran has 24 hours to accept

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...?sct=mlb_t2_a7

A trade that would send Carlos Beltran from the Mets to the Giants has been agreed to and Beltran has 24 hours to accept, which he is expected to do. The Mets are paying a significant portion of the $6 million left on Beltran's deal. It is believed the Mets will get pitching prospect Zack Wheeler from San Francisco.

The claim that the Giants have "no offence" is misleading. If you look at road games, the Giants rank very well in the NL:

3rd in runs
3rd in hits
8th in home runs
4th in RBIs
7th in BBs
12th in avg
10th in obp
11th in slg

Playing in AT&T Park really skews the numbers.
