part of my practice involves bringing in foreign workers when there is a shortage. Over the last 3 months that has started to pick up. By no way is it a boom, but there are opportunities, especially if you're prepared to travel.
If you need an OH&S lawyer, one of my good friends (who works at another firm) is the best young OH&S lawyer in the province in my opinion. I refer my OH&S questions/clients to him. PM me for details once you land on your feet.

Well Alberta created more new jobs than the whole US last month so I guess we are doing better than an entire country.

Had or made?
Hard to believe. 300 million versus 3-4 million in terms of population.

Are you sure about that? Because I'm reading 150,000 new jobs in the US last month, and 22,000 in the PRIVATE sector in Canada last month.
I seriously doubt that Alberta could create 22,000 jobs in a single month.

This seems to claim the US created only 18,000 NET jobs last month.
http://www.thestar.com/business/arti...-s-falls-short
The 150,000 new jobs claim may be accurate but the net figure takes into account lost jobs. You can have 150,000 new jobs (which seems realistic) but it doesn't help if 132,000 people lost their jobs at the same time (which also seems to make sense).

No. The PNP program is for permanent residency. This was the LMO option which is for temporary residents.
Many temporary residents want to stay however, and the PNP is a good option for some of them.

It wasn't a specific comment per se, but if he's willing to travel back to Alberta and go to a location like Cold Lake or Ft. Mac, then there are huge opportunities for him.
I think the time is ripe for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit and a bit of moxy to them.

I am actually very worried about what I have been hearing about the US economy in the last year or so. Their massive debt has finally come back to haunt them, and now they may not have enough to pay for Social Security, Health Care, etc. The thing that worries me the most is since the USA is our leading trading partner, this will ultimately have a very adverse affect on Canada.
If Americans find that their disposable income plummets, it will devastate the economy and may force the world back into another recession. We should be looking at increasing our trade with the Far East and Europe. The writing is on the wall, and thank god Canadians are known to be more conservative with spending money than our southern neighbors.
The only bright side I see about this situation is the inevitable return of NHL teams from sunbelt cities to Canadian cities (i.e Quebec and Hamilton).

We're not more conservative in our spending habits.
My neighbor for example thinks it's completely fine to buy a car and do renos using his line of credit. Through general chit chat it appears 2 years after the car purchase and renos his line of credit is still maxed.
But he only needs to make interest payments, so who cares, right?

The US just has to cut back on spending and get their defict/debt under control.
Canada had the same problem back in '94 and we dealt with it.

I kind of feel like asking 300 million people to "cut back" is a bit of a stretch. its at the point where they so far deep its going to take an incredible combination of job market stimulation, government subsidies, and an economic plan so complicated, just thinking about it would make me implode.
BUT!! if they just go to war, they will create a ton of jobs manufacturing guns and ammunition and tanks in chinaaawwwwwwaaait a second!!!!
