You know what's sad? Demonstrating how a few decent musicians, a decent songwriter, and auto tune can turn even the most untalented musical hack into something that is probably going to make money.
There's still hope for me yet!

This is why I respect Dave Grohl. Recorded Foo Fighters latest album on tape in his garage because of your exact reasoning.
Musicians this generation for the most part are not talented. They are corporate driven, computer generated money makers.

That is another sad point about the music industry right there. That now, it is some sort of achievement to record music legit. It shouldn't be at all impressive, since pretty much every band up until the mid 80's had to do it that way.
This bugs me all the time on TV and on youtube, etc. The hammer was already down (even though I know it's double action) but the hammer and slide didn't even move. Doesn't matter how good your adobe after effects skills are if you screw that part up.

Oh c'mon. People like this song because it is so bad. If anything it's a parody. I don't think it really says any negative about current music taste or what it takes to write a good song.

What does it mean "record music legit" ?
That's just the music pushed by the music publishing industry. Musicians these days have so many more outlets than the old "record album, record music video, go on tour" industry garbage that it almost negates all the bad effects. Stop listening to "popular" music, turn off the radio, ignore all the artists that are being pushed by marketing and bands that are artificially thrown together and autotuned for teenagers. Go on the internet and you find real musicians with amazing talent every day that would have never had a chance to share their music with the world 15 years ago.
Is this sugary sappy industry teenager music any different from something like your usual Debbie Gibson or Tiffany or Samantha Fox song in the 80s?

Really? Because I see it as some corporation that took an "artist" that was famous for being terrible, paid some professionals to make her sound and look legit, and are hoping to make some money on one offs from itunes.

This.
The girl barely has an ounce of musical talent and a really annoying singing voice. Yet, they've managed to augment her voice so much that she actually sounds tolerant to listen to.
Death watch day no...dammit, I forget how long now. *sigh* Guess it's not going to happen. Darn it internet, has your power of scorn and ridicule really been so diluted that you can't even get a kid to kill herself anymore?
