that was fun
Good to see new stuff from the Bell Midway Circus. The Trampoline act was awesome. The Diving act sounded like a cool idea, but was a bit boring and forced at times.
Damn the Carnies for having Angry birds stuffed toys for prizes... ended up shelling out 20 bucks to finally get the red one

I have to ask. Where the hell are these girls for the other 355 days of the year? Loved the whole thing. Absolutely brilliant fun.

Getting shots at the STI clinic?
So the attendance plateaued again I see. The same schlubs who go every year went again this tear, plus or minus some children dragged against their will and some poor souls who were duped into checking it out for the first time.
Best day of the year today, we just need a good rainfall to cleanse the city for another 355 days.

TTC continuing to troll, I see.
But, yes, Stampede Park attendance remained steady just below 1.2 million.
The parade set a record at about 425,000.
Who knows how many people partook in pancake breakfasts.... Chinook Centre has estimated in the past that it draws 60k, while the Stampede Caravan estimated 120k.
Add in all of the parties...
Overall, attendance at a Stampede event - on or off the grounds - could easily be estimated at over 2 million.
In short, the only people who don't partake in some fashion or another were those who are biologically incapable of having fun.

Wow that's a crazy long way to go for a stag. Usually the Brits just goto Amsterdam.

I think we will see the attendance plateau around the 1.2 million just because the Stampede Grounds have not really grown recently, they have not added no real attractions recently, and really the grounds are already crowded at that 1.2 million number.
Add to that the growing amount of "Stampede" options outside of the grounds (Cowboys tent, Wildhorse tent, Fort Calgary, etc) and you have to think that the attendance will probably plateau.
Although the investment that they are expected to make to celebrate the 100th anniversary next year could probably change all of that.

What irritates me is that Calgarians only do this for 10 days a year. After Stampede it's just back to business, and the Core dies again.
Personally, I try to enjoy the grounds, but it is incredibly boring unless you're wasted.

Calgary needs some more decent city west street festivals/culture than just stampede. Just going to Montreal in July is beyond belief with everything going on that takes over large parts of the city from music/food/art festivals to just for laughs and all the things happening in every major park.

Or Newcastle and believe it or not, Riga as it is dirt cheap. They can go to Latvia and do the same things and more for the same amount of money they would spend just staying home.

It is getting better.
This weekend (off the the top of my head) is the Folk Fetival at Prince's Island, Sun and Salsa Festival in Kensington, and Latin Festival at Olympic Plaza.

Yup. All of that is very true. And it won't happen for next year, but the 7 acre expansion north of the current park limits is set to open in 2013. We'll see if that allows for on-park growth.

I'd be amazed to see the development along Olympic Way (Stampede Trail) be done by 2013. They've been dragging their feet for years on it already.

So true. I love how many people are out during the Stampede nights and wish it was like that a lot more often.

They were a pretty decent band, but in the complete wrong venue, as such I will hate them forever.

Was their lead singer this hot chick who can play sax too? If it was, then you were watching Urban Divide. They are an awesome band.

Well apparently when I talked to the ringleader, he said they come over for a stag every time his buddy gets married. His one buddy. This is their third visit.

The guy is a legend in the sport. History happened at this year's stampede with him becoming the winningest driver ever.
My family knows the Sutherlands and I'm curious why you call him an asshat?
