Just bumping this thread in advance of tomorrow's season premiere.
It's funny how at one point Summer used to be the time when people cancelled their cable packages for a couple months because there was nothing on. Then AMC came along...
Less then 36 hours! Giddy with excitement.
Can't wait. Gonna re-watch the last couple episodes from last season in preparation for tomorrow.

I love this show. It's the most original thing on tv right now, if you ask me, and the acting and writing are solid. I read some complaints about the third season, but I enjoyed it. I am really looking forward to tomorrows premiere. This wait has been entirely too long, especially after that finale, jebus.

No kidding. The producers should be jailed for making us wait over a year for Season 4.
The Season 4 premiere better live up the standard the rest of the series has set

Complaints about season 3? You'd have to be insane to complain about anything that the last season. By far the best of the series so far.
I thought the 3rd season was one of the best seasons in tv history, and everything I have seen from tv critics who have seen the premier say that it lives up to that standard
Do people want to speculate on what they think will happen or is that potentially too spoiler-y?
Here's my question:
Spoiler!
Whether Jesse kills Gale or not, what keeps him (Jesse) alive in the new season? Is he not essentially 100% expendable from Gus' perspective at this point? And Walt, I doubt, has the pull to protect him given they were going to kill him, so why wouldn't Gus just kill him off? Would he keep him alive just to avoid spoiling his working relationship with Walt, cause I imagine him ordering Walts murder would have already spoiled it. Jesse has done nothing but irritate Gus so what reason will be given for why he doesn't kill Jesse? Or is there something I am missing entirely?

Walt is in the driver's seat now. Gus needs Walt more than Walt needs him. In the finale of season 3, we already saw that Gus is facing pressure from rival cartels. If production stops he is screwed. Walt can just say that it's him and Jesse or he won't cook at all. I guess on the other side of things, Gus could threaten to harm Walter's family, but that would also draw a lot of attention to Gus (what with Hank being a DEA agent and all) so that's probably not a very viable option for him either. I think we are going to see Walt take control of the whole situation and ultimately kill Gus

I guess I don't feel like Walt really does hold all the cards, assuming Gale is dead. Would an actual drug cartel guy put up with this much crap? Would it be that difficult to find another person to duplicate Walt's recipe? I mean, he's using basic science, it would seem. Can't he find another "Gale" to duplicate it?
As for Walt killing Gus, that seems to me what the trailers are indicating.
My only worry about the season is they start to make Walt a little too "superhero-ish" (granted on the morally negative side). This sort of happened with Omar in the last season of the Wire, but didn't have the chance to go far enough. I'm worried it's going to happen here and tarnish what has been an amazing series.
What do you mean by superhero-ish? I haven't seen the Wire, so I am not sure what specifically you think will happen. Are you afraid he'll be too untouchable or something along those lines?

Jesse killed Gale. There is no question about that unless Vince Gilligan lied because he said as much. As for finding a replacement for Walt, I think the issue is time. Gus said himself that he can't afford to shut down production for even a week. Finding a replacement who is able to come in without a moment's notice, figure out the recipe and then produce the required amount (200 lbs per week) seems unlikely. Obviously I know nothing about cooking meth, but that is what the show would like you to believe. That it takes an incredibly high skillset and that it is not easy to replicate. If I'm Gus, I'd try my best to make Walt feel confident that he is safe (and that would include letting Jesse live) long enough for him to secretly find someone else to replace him and then, when the new guy is ready, then kill both Jesse and Walt. That's how I would go about it at least.

I hate this spoiler tag crap....
I can't imagine Vince Gilligan came out and said that Gale is dead. They're pretty good at keeping this shows plot lines a secret. I'm not doubting that he is dead, but I doubt that he's said as much.
As for the lulling him into a sense of security before offing him, is that not what he tried to do in the last season with Gale? It ended with a mucked up failure which is where they currently stand. You think he's going to re-attempt this plan, when it's known that Walt is hip to it? Seems unlikely he would go that route. He seems too smart to try and rehash the same scheme.

Gilligan said in an interview with Alan Sepinwall that he didn't intend for the ending of Season 3 to be ambiguous and just shot it that way for effect. Jesse did infact kill Gale.
Quote:
In my mind, no, I don't intend for there to be any ambiguity. Let me start this by saying I always am reluctant to tell the audience afterward what to think or how to feel. I really prefer it when the audience comes to their own conclusions. But in honest answer to your question, I never really intended for there to be any ambiguity. But it's funny: in the editing room, my editor and some other people were saying that the way it counter-dollies around, it looks like he's changing his point of aim before he pulls the trigger. For what it's worth, I did not intend for it to feel that way. I've been hearing from the people who've already seen it that it looks like he's changing where he's aiming. That is not intentional. I did not see it that way when I was directing. It's not wrong for you to think he shot this guy.
I'd also recommend some of you check out X-Files episode 6x02, Drive.
One of the classic episodes in the series that was written by Vince Gilligan, and guest stars Cranston. One of my own personal favorite episodes in the series, and it really features Cranston's acting chops outside on Malcolm.
I would bet that Gilligan working with Cranston on that series helped the casting of Craston in Breaking.
