I felt bad about giving up so much money to go to College, but it was the $1200 I spent on the first day on textbooks that was the hardest thing for me to pay for, even though that was a smaller amount. How they could charge me $200+ for a textbook was beyond me, and in the end I used only half of the textbooks enough to consider them worth the cost. Thank god wood design and statics books are still useful after school.

Meh, not really. Since I'm self-employed, I don't pay taxes like most people who have it taken off their salary every paycheque. I pretty much had to do it all in one-shot at the end of the year, which is why its such a high number. Most people are probably in this ball-park, they just spread it out over the year so it feels less painful.
I did have thoughts of buying a Cayman and running for the border though.

The hardest bills to pay are the ones when your friends cop out and don't pay their share of the tab. Bugs me every time it happens, and it doesn't matter how old you are; people of all ages do it.

Haha, I love the logic. I think you need a meeting.

Hmm, I would have to say $80K for the downpayment of my house. It was stupidly stressful too because the bank kept telling me to treat the money order like cash and that if I lost it, I potentially lose $80K.

I have to ask what you have to do as a career to end up paying 50k in taxes???

Nope, no GA for me. I gamble in spite now. I just want my bloody 7K back on principle. It still pisses me off thinking about how stupid that night was.
Last time I was in Vegas, playing poker was a chore, and I waited until the last day to do it. But I doubled my $1000 on three hands and an all in push, which actually netted me about $1400. I honestly hate gambling now, it is as they say, an idiot tax.

So I convinced myself it was really only a $1000 loss, until the bill showed up that logic changed.

A proper method would discount your winnings at an appropriate discount rate like 3% with you having pay the NPV of the $7000 you lost ten years ago. It'll work out to more than $7000 you have to pay back.

But as I said, it's not that much, just I just tend to pay in one chunk as opposed to 24 small ones like most people. I bet half of CP pays more than than in a year.

I hate paying for car repairs - you don't end up with anything more - you are just paying to maintain your current situation.
My wife was trying to get the attention of a friend in an apartment on the 2nd floor. She thought she could toss a pebble into the window to alert them - but selected a stone a little too big and it went clean through. That was a $800 touch that was tough to swallow.

(Just did a little bit of research, "Payed" Is not entirely incorrect.)
Anyways, I hope you guys can contribute more to this thread than just yanking my chain over grammar and spelling.

In order to pay $50,000 in taxes in Alberta, you would have to make over $162,000.

Hardest I've ever had to pay was probably tuition. Thats always a bitch.
As an accountant preparing taxes for the rich and famous I've seen some doozies. Be it from the self employed, the regularly employed and the heavy investors.

In that case, I made $15,000 in 2009. Man, if i knew people were going to try to dissect my salary, i never would said anything.
