Crazy day today with two straight corporate parties (starting at 11:00am) and then the Stampede Roundup at Fort Calgary tonight. Really hope the rain eases off, but if not, so be it - that's what the cowboy hat is for.
Halfway point of Stampede 2011 folks - time to get that second wind! Yeehaw!

On a hot day it is a sweltering disgusting tent. So ghetto.

Got in Nashville North last night in like 10-15 minutes, although I know its usually a longer wait.
There was lots of good looking girls there, imo.
Only had one drink though, didnt pre-drink at all and didnt feel like spending tons of money to get drunk.

Does anyone know what time the GMC Rangeland derby (chucks) and then the grandstand show starts? I have the tickets at home but I am at the office...

Actually the second half of Stampede should be pretty sweet. I'm forgoing the company event at the Stampede grounds tomorrow to head out of town for the weekend. By the time I get back Sunday, the 2011 Stampede will almost be a distant memory.

What irritates me is that Calgarians only do this for 10 days a year. After Stampede it's just back to business, and the Core dies again.
Personally, I try to enjoy the grounds, but it is incredibly boring unless you're wasted.

I am just recovering from my events on Tuesday. Started out at the big guns breakfast and hammered back 10 screwdrivers or so. Then walked to Stephen Ave and had lunch at the unicorn patio and a couple of jugs. Then I had 12 tickets to the Let R Buck party at roadhouse. Followed that with another corporate party and then off the grounds to watch the chucks.
The wagons are my favorite part of stampede. So exciting. Last night was awesome. Rio basically ruined stampede for Mark Sutherland. On the back straight he was just tearing into him. 19 seconds of penalties is a we bit too large to come back from.

Chucks start at 8. 9 heats takes about 90 minutes. I'm guessing the grandstand show starts at 10 or so. I've never stayed after the chucks though

Chucks are always good. This year's grandstand is another story.
Volte?
It was just weird for the first half. I went on Sunday. The entire time I was asking my wife "should we be drinking for this?" We weren't. Wish we had been.
Was a good show...just the first 45 minutes were REALLY weird and hard to comprehend the concepts they were bringing across. Didn't seem very "stampede-ish" to us.

Same here, except we were asking if we should be on mushrooms for this...or if someone had already slipped them in our beers. The dancing horse heads were freaky sh*t.
As an annual stampeder though, I liked the non-traditional angle they went with it.

This is something that's bugged me since I moved back. Stampede seems to be the only time of the year that people seem to unwind. It's not healthy.
I'm not a huge fan of the grounds either, but I've gone for the past few years to keep Mrs. Puppet happy. We took the little one (15 mos.) down this year for her first taste of the events, and it went well aside from the screams of terror when Hospitality Hoss came by.

You know what? I'm with you. Stampede sucks. The Beltline is ruined by a bunch of suburban-dwelling yokels that come down, party like idiots until 5 in the morning (kicking over newspaper boxes in front of my apartment doesn't really qualify as good fun), and then leave their trash everywhere. Plus, I saw a hooker give a guy a blowjob in a parking lot last night around 8 last night and it broke my eyes forever.
This city could do a lot better than Stampede.

You're not looking hard enough. With or without Stampede. Tons of holes in the wall to check out.
EDIT: Before CC jumps on me, yeah I just figured out how that sounds. Whatever.

+1 for chucks being great and then the first half of the show Is boring / trippy. Second half is much better. Several acts taken from cirque shows in Vegas!

I never made it to the second half. Please tell me they don't have the two dudes balancing on oneanother again. I think they've had them like 5 times now...

They do. I've only been to the show twice though so it hasn't gotten repetitve yet. Probably the most impressive part of the show for me.
