Now it will be that Bautista got too long of a contract. I'm sure there is some nay sayer out there saying he'll never hit 30 home runs again too, which at some point will become a true statement as he gets older. But for this year it's been a bargain deal given what he brings to the team. They'd undoubtably be a last place team in my opinion if it wasn't for Bautista.

Bautista's WAR is 6.6 right now, which is providing nearly 30 million in value (29.7)
so for his 65 million dollar contract he only needs to provide another 7.85 WAR over the remaining portion of the contract, and for the final club option year, he'd only have to provide 3.11 WAR to be worth it then.
Considering he has 4.5 years to get 7.85 war, I think it's a bargain. Especially with how he'll probably get 2.5+ WAR the rest of the way if he slows down a lot or upwards of 5 if he keeps up his pace.

Alot of writers thought the Jays should have traded Bautista at the deadline last season... sell high!

Hoping for a big push from the Jays after the all-star break. Usually this is the time right after when they go on an extended road trip and lose 9 out of 10.
Farrell needs to get the bullpen in order, especially Francisco. Starting pitching has been good, the bats are swinging and the defense has been good. Unfortunately baseball is not seven innings, and the 'pen needs to solidify the wins for the team.
Heres to a strong second half!

Jays trade Rivera to the Dodgers today...
The Toronto Blue Jays have traded outfielder Juan Rivera to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for a player to be named or cash considerations.
Both Napoli and Rivera gone in the Wells deal. We still win by unloading that contract.

The Dodgers added salary and sent the Jays cash, how does that work?

Contract was ugly but they've haven't been able to replace Wells' bat or more importantly his defense. How many balls have we seen go over Davis' head?

Short term the Jays are not missing Wells Offense (Patterson has similiar amount of RBIs)
As for his defense, Jays are okay.
Long term Jays saved a boat load of money and are continuing to invest heavily in the draft.
Seems like a really solid strategy, I expect when they are ready to contend they will sign a couple of players.

Wells' defense has been on a very sharp decline the last couple years. Jays are not missing it at all.
He should be banished to a corner OF spot soon.
You'll be much happier if the BJs decide to sign someone like a Jose Reyes or Prince Fielder to a long term deal with that kind of money. Trust me.

Fielder would be a good choice..what a dream to have Bautista fielder Lind and your 3-4-5 hitters. I love the potential we have to add guys next year.

The Jays also sent cash along with Rivera...supposedly covering the remainder of his salary.
Jays just didn't want that to be publicly released
