Default Tuesday Game Scores

Will be up after the Flames game. And I have to write the game report tonight so a little after the Flames game. There is a SLIM chance that I might be able to get home and do the games before the Flames game but don't bet on it.

If you have a problem with this go flush your head.

Avs 3, Flyers 1

New acquisitions continue to fuel an Avalanche surge.
For the second straight game since coming to Colorado, Fernando Pisani was the most dominant forward. He scored two goals and Shawn Bates potted the other in a 3-1 win over Philly.
Another newcomer, Scott Walker, had three assists.
However, the player of the game was without doubt the Avs new netminder Jocelyn Thibault. Outshot 34-14, the Avs still pulled out a win thanks to the play of Thibault.

Pens get sick in the worst possible position!!
Flames 5- Pens 3
The Pittsburgh Penguins had some bad luck, GM Goffie warned goalies Jose Theodore and Jason Labarbera not to eat at the local Sushi restaurant. They did not listen and that may cost the team a few points. Jose started the game sick, and he showed it, being pulled after allowing 5 goals. Labarbera relieved him, he fared better stat wise, however he had to get the IV hooked up after the game. This means the Pens find themselves in trouble with the top 2 goalies feeling under the weather. Workhorse Theo is expected to be scratched for tommorows game while Labarbera will start with Danis backing him up.

On a positive, Ilya Kovalchuk is fitting in nicely, he now has 3 points in 2 games since moving to Pittsburgh.

Whoohoo Devils win!!!

We now have the CPHL's number 3 powerplay and sit alone in 11th place in the Gretzky conference, and 25th in the league!!! We will enjoy the pinnacles of our success before we eventually start to suck as bad as we should.

VOKOUN DEBUTS WITH 30 SAVES IN VICTORY

Tomas Vokoun directs a shot to the corner in his debut as
an Islander on Tuesday night.

UNIONDALE, NY - Tomas Vokoun had a successful debut as an Islander stopping 30 shots en route to a 4-2 Islanders victory.

The crowd was buzzing as fans prepared for the Tuesday night tilt where three new Islanders made their debuts in front of a sold-out crowd at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Paul Kariya, Fedor Tyutin, and Tomas Vokoun all suited up against the Bluejackets after being acquired on Sunday from the Nashville Predators in a deal which saw Sergei Gonchar, Kristian Huselius, and Jocelyn Thibault move to the Howe Conference.

After two periods the Islanders found themselves behind by a pair without an answer themselves as goals from Travis Green in the first and Tony Amonte in the second had the visitors in the lead.

Green's first of the season came at 13:10 of the opening period when an Andy Sutton shot from the point bounced off a couple of bodies in front of Vokoun before landing on Green's stick neatly who had Vokoun at his mercy who was already sliding in the other direction.

Tony Amonte would add to the Columbus lead in the second when he fired a one-timer past Vokoun at 2:28 on the powerplay with Olli Jokinen and Toni Lydman adding assists on the goal.

With the Jackets pressing in the second threatening to run away with the game Tomas Vokoun answered the call with several dazzling saves including a series of remarkable stops in the closing seconds of the second period off Olli Jokinen and Pascal Dupuis to preserve the two-goal deficit.

After firing only 11 shots in the first two periods combined, inspired by Vokoun's performance the Islanders rallied behind their new netminder in the third firing 12 shots in the final twenty minutes scoring four times.

Tony Voce opened the scoring in the third with his second goal of the season taking a Mark Parrish cross-ice feed and beating Kevin Weekes through the five-hole at 2:09.

Thirty seconds later with Andy Sutton off serving a boarding minor, Oleg Tverdovsky's point shot would find its way through a crowd into the net beating Kevin Weekes who had no chance on the goal.

After evening the score and with momentum on their side, the Islanders continued to press, peppering Weekes with shot after shot, but the Columbus goalie was equal to the task stopping most of the chances, some of which were of the high-quality variety.

The Islanders would eventually capitalize though when Tony Voce's pretty move in the neutral zone allowed him to walk in on a 2 on 1 with teammate Marcel Hossa who finished the play off firing a shot in the Columbus net beating Weekes over his right shoulder to put the Isles up by one.

Jordan Leopold added another at 19:38 of the third shoveling in a rebound past a sprawled Columbus netminder to seal the victory, completing the comeback.

The Islanders are idle tomorrow but will practice as they welcome two more new players to the fold on the Island. Both Marek Svatos and Danil Markov are expected to arrive tomorrow where they'll meet with the team and suit up for practice as the team prepares for the Dallas Stars who come knocking on Thursday.

Game Notes - Paul Kariya had an assist in his first game as an Islander seeing 20 minutes of ice time on the night... Fedor Tyutin saw 24 minutes on the ice and finished the night at -1... Tony Voce's two-point performance could not have come at a better time for the young forward who has been relegated to the pressbox for most of the season but drew back into the line-up due to Ruutu's ankle injury sustained Monday evening... How did the former Islanders do...?... Jocelyn Thibault, who has since moved on to the Colorado Avalanche, made 33 saves in his debut in a 3-1 victory over the Flyers... Kristian Huselius was held pointless in his debut as a Predator... Sergei Gonchar will make his debut tomorrow evening for the Florida Panthers.

Oil earn a point on the road in a 2 – 2 tie

The setting was Madison Square Gardens as the Oil and the Rangers hooked up for game 804 of the CPHL season. The Rangers provided the only scoring of the opening period as Todd White beat Martin Brodeur on the stick side with a minute and eleven seconds showing on the clock.
The second period showed a lot of nothing, as the two teams could not capitalize their opportunities. The Oil went 0 – 2 on the power play on the period, as Noronen stood tall.
It wasn’t until the third period that the Oil found a way to beat Noronen as both Vinny and Hossa both scored two and a half minutes apart. The last ten minutes saw the Oil just dump ‘n chase and get the boring road game going. Niinimaa spoiled the party with a late goal bringing the game to a two – two tie. OT solved nothing, as the Oil seemed content tonight to get out with the point.

Overall anytime you grab a point on the road it’s a good thing.

Roman Hamrlik who was a game time scratch will be in the line up tonight as the Oil and the Canes do battle. Hamrlik has not played since December 7 and will be a welcome addition back on the blue line.

KABOOOOOOOOM #2

Flames 5 Pens 3

After getting totally creamed by the Pens last week, the Flames came back with a gritty effort and threw everything but the kitchen sink against the foul smelling Pens.

Nathan Dempsey led the way with his first goal in 1,000,000 games.
Brian Boucher making his second straight start backstopped the boys in this win...also making 25 out of 28 saves.

Andrew Cassels and Richard Zednick each had a goal and an assist.

next up the Devils...time to teach Sylvanfan how to respect his elders!!!

Power Play Conversions

FLAMES 0 for 5
PENGUINS 0 for 3

Game Stars 1 - ??????
2 - ??????
3 - Nathan Dempsey (FLA)

Rangers 2 - Oilers 2

The question around the team lately is are they done slumping? I guess a tie is better than a lose. After playing a bunch of games in a row the Rangers decided to play their backup goalie. Mikka Noronen had a great game but allot of the players did not show up. Mike York and Todd White are carrying the team as they continue to be on every scoring play.

Rangers are still trying to make a trade but for some reason its been difficult lately.

HAWKS TROUNCE CAPS

The Hawks had an offensive outburst this time, instead of the kind of outburst that sends them to the penalty box. Paul Martin started things off scoring his first of the season. He lags somewhat (ALOT) behind his clone in the NHL in the scoring department.

The final score 6-2. The Hawks finally chased a goalie!!

Game Stars
1 - Daniel Alfredsson (HAW)
2 - Jussi Jokinen (HAW)
3 - Henrik Zetterberg (HAW)

Next up, the Bolts. Despite the Bolts GM having posters publically plastered all over the CPHL community regarding his poor judgement and lack of ability to run a team, the Hawks will not be overlooking this team. We know they can spring to life and humiliate a team every now and then. We just hope it is Boston and not Chicago they take out their anger and frustration upon.

The Habs dominate the first period firing 17 shots at Mathieu Garon. However, Garon seemed invinceable, turning away all 17 shots. THe second period was a different story. Chara scored 49 seconds into the second frame and afanasenkov would add another to put the Habs up 2-1 at the end of the second period. Outshooting the lightning 9-3 in the third period (39-19 total) the Habs added the insurance marker early in the third as Martin Erat found his lost scoring touch. Phillipe Sauve replaced the tired Kari Lehtonen, as Lehtonen has started the last 4 games with a 2-2 record. Sauve moves to 3-5-1 in his back-up roll so far this season.
