Having first hand experience dealing with two seperate federal government IT departments - I know how fraking useless bureaucrats can be (just my experience, I know there are a lot of good people working for the government too).

But cutting 1200 positions in the area of water oversight is dangerous to the point of stupid.

Water conservation WILL be a big deal to my generation and subsequent generations. Just because the ignorant boomers don't give a crap doesn't mean they should handcuff their legacy. My hate on for boomer politics continues...

You must have studied the 'Sun' really hard to come up with that little gem.

When I worked for the federal government (MoE) , I know that I made nothing even close to that pay scale posted. I make about 40% more now in the private sector. I also wouldn't say that people were lazier there, although there was certainly no OT or weekend work expectations or opportunities like the private sector which is both good and bad depending.

There was a lot of waste in the government though. We used to get swag which I think is stupid in the government (things like chocolates, mugs and stress balls with the government logo on them). I also used to get flown around and put up in nice hotels for training and workshop opportunities. I guess the thing is, if they don't have perks like that, why would anyone with ambition not just go to the private sector and make more money? I wonder if the people responsible for those bad decisions still have their job? Probably...

So is the salary scale I found incorrect? Is there another Federal Pay Scale?

It is from the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat

If this is anything to go by, then to have worked for the Federal Government for 35+ years means that Mike F's (Regional Director!) Dad would be making 80-100K in the last years of his employment, according to these scales.

Surely no one has ever lied in an attempt to make a point on an internet forum before.

I dont listen to or read the "Lame" stream media. I get my news from the best sources out there... talk radio hosted by patriots like Rush Limbaugh and Fox News' hard hitting analysts.

You know somebody from a union that you say couldn't keep a job taught you to read and write.

Two things:
1.) Hopefully 1200 jobs cut means positions, not people. Perhaps they can do it through attrition.

2.) The US feds. are dealing with the same issue; pressure for massive job cuts to the bureaucrats and civil service. One stat that jumped out at me was that over the last 10 years, the US has spent 3.7 trillion fighting foreign wars*. Our amount is probably in the high billions, but why do so called 'patriots' conveniently forget the bloated military budget while slamming ordinary Canadians for doing their job?

If he worked for 35 years, then he's eligible for full DB pension.

@70K year, 3% inflation, for 15 years that's about $835K in PV...

Did he save $835000 when he worked?
