I wonder if real cowboys get annoyed with it as much as flames fans get annoyed with poser fans during playoff runs?
Your analogy is wrong. Cowboys are to "Stampede Goers" as Flames players are to Flames fans.

Essentially you're the one posing as a real hockey player; So Valo above pretty much hit the nail on the head.

What those guys said. Most are not a fan of ice hockey players and cowboys. They are fans of the Flames and of the Stampede.

Why people dress up as Cowboys is actually much more simple then the "fan complex".

Girls dress up as slutty cowgirls because they want to ride an actual cowboy due to the percieved thought that cowboys are strong and sexy. (Much like the uniform complex that Police Officers and Firemen possess)

Guys in Calgary witnessed this phenomenon and started to dress up like Cowboys in order to trick these drunk girls that they are "real" cowboys whom are desirable to sleep with.

Over time this became the norm of the Calgary Stampede and it all stems from our natural urge to try and get laid.

It wasn't my analogy. I'm not here to tell anyone what to or not to do. Just stating I don't understand it. I'm a flames fan for 365 days of the year so calling me a poser doesn't really work when your dressing like a cowboy for 10. I'll proudly wear my flames jersey on Jan.3 or Aug.27 who's willing to do the same with their cowboy hats and boots. Like I said if you wanna dress up, to each their own... i'm not a cowboy or a fan of the whole western theme so I don't dress like one. But i'm sure the guy in the Tapout shirt and cowboy hat standing in line with you at Nashville north is.

But this goes for everything. Why do we dress up on Halloween. Why can't I dress up like a Tinkerbell on Aug 27? Why do we have Christmas? Why can't I wear a Santa hat on Apr 14? Why do girls get gifts only on Valentines Day? Why can't I get flowers and chocolate EVERYDAY!?

We live in world of rigid scheduling. Different events symbolizes different parts of the year. For 10 days every July, we celebrate riding Cowboys

These guys right here are the true problem.

If you want to go wear wranglers, cowboy boots, plaid shirts, and a cowboy hat then all the power to you. You went all in, are embracing the cowboy culture, and you have to respect that.

But the guys wearing their affliction shirts and True Religon jeans, throw on a cowboy hat and all of a sudden think they are cowboys are the problem.

These are the guys who make fun of cowboys for 355 days a year but then embrace Calgary's cowboy culture when it is an excuse to get drunk and party.

Plus it is no surprise that these are the guys you always see getting into a fight at the end of the night once they are drunk.

Cboys tomorrow at noon for me!

I hate to defend those guys in the affliction shirts, but really, they're not trying to convince anyone else that they're cowboys, and certainly not themselves either. Throwing on a hat or going fully geared is just a way of telling people that you're down with the party.

Why do people get so upset by this? It's a summer party. Geez, some of you sticks in the mud need to lighten up. It's our party. Like Oktoberfest except with western clothes instead of those weird german clothes. Not everything is a life statement.

Why to those losers wear tuxes on their weddings? Like, who are they kidding? Like they think they're all rich and hoity toity now.

I'm wearing jeans at work today but apparently we're not allowed to until next week. I feel like an ass but at least I look good.

When did I say I didn't have fun? I just don't have to put on a cowboy hat to get laid and gain entrance to 'cboys'. There's plenty more than chuckwagons and rodeo's (which I respect for those who enjoy that) for those of us that don't need a dress up week.

Lived here most of my life, and never got around to buying boots yet (and my Dad is more or less a real cowboy rancher).

What should I buy that I can wear Stampeding, and also around the ranch and trail-riding?

http://www.albertaboot.com/

New boots should feel comfortably snug. The ball of the foot should be right in the widest part of the boot, indicating proper arch length and adequate toe room (toes should sit flat and free). The boot should be snug over the instep (top of the foot) since there are no laces, buckles, etc. Finally, there should be a slight lift in the heel when you walk (approx. ½ inch) which will subside as the sole starts to flex. If a boot is too tight there will be little or no lift and if a boot is too big, the heel will slip dramatically.

How tall are you troutman?

The low profile heels are definitely the most comfortable to walk in, but the traditional style cowboy boot with a bigger heel make you feel awesome and tall (albeit less comfortable).

So you probably want a lower profile heel with rubber soles, unless you want to be awesome and tall.

I'm tall enough (6'0"). I would also use these boots for riding, so I think I need the higher heel?

Nah, a low profile heel will work just fine for riding, if you get a "Roper" style boot you'll be comfortable walking around and wearing them on the ranch.

I've got two pairs from Alberta boot, both roper style, one is standard bull hide, the other is kangaroo and ostritch leather, both are conforable, both are super durable, and the nice ones are well enough made that I've warn them to several brandigns, and can still polish them up and wear them to a wedding.
