If Aaron Hill is moved it won't be because of Lawrie (who's glove doesn't play at 2nd), but I could see Ant trying to move him if:
a) Ant doesn't want to pick up Hill's options (likely)
b) Hill has indicated he won't re-sign at a friendlier dollar (unknown)
c) a trade would produce a high-ceiling prospect (doubtful)

McCoy would remain an injury call-up and possibly the replacement for a traded Hill - but these are three or four roster moves away so this is drifting into rosterbation.

I would like to see Cooper get more MLB time if the opportunity presented itself. He seemed like the kind of eye the offense is lacking as veterans are getting shuffled off the team.

I like Davis as a bench outfielder, especially with a (presumably) weak defensive/athletic outfield. I think he has value as a pinch runner / defensive replacement for Thames in the later innings, or a defensive upgrade if Snider needs an off-day.

I think Lawrie bumps McCoy but Davis and E5 remain as bench players (Edwin fills the backup 1B / DH role vacated by Rivera).

Probably because acquiring Young is a 3 year committment. What happens when Lawrie gets called up and starts raking and you have a 13 million dollar back up third baseman for 2 more seasons?

You put Lawrie at DH where he belongs.

An athletic 21 year old rookie infielder at DH?
Surely you jest.

At worst he plays corner outfield.

edit: and since we're talking about bumping Lawrie for Young, I may as well note that of his 82 games played in Texas this year, Young has played one game at 3B.

Well he has already struggled at two positions. I guess you can put him in the outfield but it does appear that hitting is his strong point and athleticism or not defensively he needs a lot of work.

Which is exactly why a rebuilding team leaves him in the minors for half the year and plays him every day in the bigs for the other half. From non-Jay's scouts I've listened to, Lawrie is projected to be fine at 3B.
If he does wash out at 3B (like Ryan Bruan did) then plug him into LF with his strong arm and above-average speed. If he can't hack it in LF then he is an unqualified bust (regardless of his bat) in my eyes, and probably gets traded to another team that thinks they can salvage him.

Frankly, the Jays moving a 21-year-old athletic rookie infielder to DH to make room for a big-money 34-year-old current DH is beyond idiotic.

yep totally agree, the 21 year old is going to get every chance to be an every day 3rd baseman.....

My comments are because before the season started the metrics said that EE would have a better season than Young. But right now the metrics are not holding true. My point is that metrics are all good to look at but they still have to play the game.

I would never want Young on the Jays because of his three year salary but the original discussion was about one season and comparing the metrics.

Also, just because some of you can quote the metrics for a player doesn't mean you know any more than us rubes that choose to not quote those numbers as part of our discussions.

Oh I don't think that you should get Young I was just commenting on the fact that Lawrie is looking more and more like DH is the best fit for him.

Braun is likely a better fit at DH then LF as well.

Jon Lackey sucks. Jays look like they'll have a good day offensively.

Lawrie made error's at the beginning of the season.... but I heard he was playing well at 3rd Base (before he was hurt). I have not heard anything that states he can not play 3rd.

I heard that he was playing better than he was at the start of the season but that he still was struggling and the "better" statement was because he couldn't have got worse.

I think it was someone on PTS but can't remember who exactly.

Tough not to feel bad for Lackey, who's wife is/was, cant remember, dealing with breast cancer. That in itself must weigh heavily on ones mind. Then toss him into the feeding frenzy at Fenway, and you're asking for disaster.

IIRC she is currently dealing with it, him and a lot of the Sox players have been doing a lot of charitable work for breast cancer this season with her in mind. I have never been a Lackey fan by any means, but this sesaon he has really been the whipping boy for the fans and the media... Especially with no Dice-K to blame for everything that goes wrong.

I understand his numbers are some of the worst in all of Major League Baseball, but I couldn't boo a guy knowing full well of the circumstances he's dealing with. Frustrating it is I'm sure as a Sox fan, but these guys live personal lives outside of the chalk as well. Sad stuff.
