Winter Tire Storage?

Been doing some searching online but can't seem to find anything.

Anyone know of any good, reputable and relatively inexpensive companies that offer tire storage and will put your set of tires on when the season's change?

Moving into a condo and my rinky-dink storage locker doesn't appear to be big enough to house my winters all summer long.

We're using Harper Tire and have been happy so far - there's a couple locations, but we go to the one that's just east of Chinook in the industrial area.

Do they charge anything for that storage? (assuming you bought the tires there that is)

wow, that's nuts. The local GM dealer has a great deal, $50 bucks to swap tires, including balance, and they store your tires for free, witer/summer. $100 a year for balanced tires, storage and no need for a second set of rims. They bought a couple shipping containers and have them in the back of their lot, so your tires are stored in a nice dark room, can't ask for much more.

Doesn't help you much in cowtown though.

Taking tires on and off the rim every year is REALLY bad on them. They should be mounted/dismounted as little as possible.

We did buy the tires there, storage is $10/tire, so $40. Since we don't have room (we live in a condo), I think it's reasonable

I've been swapping summer/winter tires on every car I've owned for 16 years. Never once had a problem.

I called them up. $25/tire for the first season if you haven't bought them from there, and then $12/tire to swap the tires on in the winter if they're already on the rims.

I think the price goes down the next season for storage. Will probably pop on over there this weekend and drop them off. Thanks again tete!

Then you're lucky. Or have a giant tire size. The more sidewall, the less problems you'll have.

My current set of tires I bought off a friend, only 5000km on them. The dismount/mount led to tears in the beads of 3 of them. Luckily they all seem to be holding air. Lets hope the sidewall doesn't separate.


16 years, 2 mount and balances every year.

$80 * 32 mount/balances= $2560. That will buy many sets of winter rims.

I agree with hulk, but I have done both. Vehicles I own, I usually try and get a extra set of rims from a wrecker. Having two sets of factory mags is nice. Lease, well that one I just swapped. Summer tires only lasted 2 seasons anyway.

As in you take the summers off the rims then put winters on the rims and vice versa?

Or do you have winters and summers on a separate set of rims?

I think you've had bad luck, or somebody effed up changing your tires over.

That $2560 is a good point, but I'm still ahead I think just because I typically get bored of my cars quickly and buy a different one. If I bought a second set of rims for every car I've owned I'd be in the poor house. I've had something like 20 cars which is more than one car for every year I've been driving. My current car I've had for 2.5 years which is a record for me - should've bought a second set of rims for this one for sure.

I used to have car-switchitis too. My current one is 3 years old and that's the longest I've ever had a car. I used to just buy the cheap steel wheels, you can sell them for almost what you paid. The downside is they are very ugly. My current car I wanted bigger summer wheels anyway, so the stocks are for winter.

As for the bad luck, they are also 35 profile 19" tires, which apparently aren't the easiest to mount/dismount as there isn't much sidewall there. Lots of places charge a bug surcharge to do low profile tires because of the difficulties involved.
