Did they force AC back to work? They proposed legislation and magically the Union and AC decided to sign a deal.

CP hasnt done so and is likely hoping the NDP will fillibuster the motion - they cant stop it but they can delay it.

This thread is funny.

It's a mix of:
"HA HA! WHO CARES? NOBODY USES CANADA POST ANYMORE ANYWAY!!"
and
"My hours have been cut", "businesses are suffering" and "the stuff I ordered is going to be weeks late"

So which is it? The cartoon above where nobody is using Canada Post and rather using the Internet, or the Conservatives "Canada Post is essential to the economy of the country and therefore we MUST force them back to work"?

I bet if you tallied the posts in this thread they'd be at least 60-75% "who cares". And if you look at the feds' reaction to this strike/lockout compared to the Air Canada strike, you can see what's more important. Air travel. Not mail.

DA, you're like a Canucks fan when it comes to anything union related. It doesn't matter how bloody stupid and useless and out of control a union is, you're there sticking up for them. It's practically a slam dunk to open a union thread and see you getting defensive about them like seeing cheese hating religion.

The cartoon is a pretty accurate satire of Canada's reaction to this strike. And that's all a cartoon can ever hope to be - relatively accurate. So why'd you even bring it up? You know it was a completely useless and pointless point, so why waste your breath, er, finger strokes? It's a cartoon. And it is pretty accurate to most people. This stupid strike has affected me absolutely not at all, and ditto for most people I know. A couple of people have a cheque or something moderately important stuck in the mail, but most people in Canada are just laughing at themselves every morning when they open the mailbox and thinking "me so stupid... They're on strike", not "Jesus f***, when's the strike gonna end?"

Give it up already. They're out to lunch, just like the idiots at GM and 90% of the rest of the unions in North America. They're only there because they're already there, and it's impossible to get rid of them. They're like pine beetle. Only way to get rid of them is to let them kill the forest and then let lightning strike and burn the remnants before a new forest grows.

Maybe I missed something, I haven't been following the thread too closely. Whose hours have been cut and business suffering?

There are a few people like myself who are waiting for parcels but that's about it.

Where I work the AP/AR people have switched to purolator/ups/fedex/dhl for their letter deliveries. Its more expensive but it is what it is.

The media continues to tell the story the way they want to. Even the above cartoons say "strike" when it is a lockout.

^^ Yes, as of now it's a lockout. However the workers went on strike first; CP just made them put their money where there mouth is. At 60-80% pay the strike could have lasted months. And I know I stopped mailing stuff as soon as the rotating strikes started.

To me it's like if your girlfriend breaks up with you and says "let's just be friends." And you say "No, in that case I never want to see you again." Would it not be fair to say that she was the one who broke up with you?

1) Because some business models are based on dumbass old school ideas. Any business still relying on Canada Post is as stupid as the people that think we need them to deliver a Visa statement to my house when I can simply download my own copy.

2) If they rolled out a detailed phase out plan of mail service, not a shock to the system like a strike, they could phase out mail service probably within 5 years. Look at how many people the last 2 weeks have discovered the convenience of online banking and bill payment. Once people are forced out of their comfort zones, they sometimes realize how irrational and stupid their old habits are... especially when they see a real time bank statement.

With more and more people making Purchases on the internet someone has to deliver these things since your no longer going out to get it. There will always be a need for this service.
