I went to drop off a letter today and the mailbox said "Temporarily out of order". It took me a minute to realize why.

I hear Purolator is helping delivery of packages. Some CP employees were trying to blockade a Purolator depot.

I don't get it, why is CalgaryPuck involved? Is this a union shop?

Pissed off, Credit Card is in the mail and had to cancel a trip since I am unable to book a hotel until my replacement card gets here whenever this damn strike is over.

This just shows what a bunch of idiots these people are, and how they deserve nothing. Isn't Purolator owned by Canada post anyway?

I had a new credit card in the mail too, and RBC Visa, just sent me another one via UPS and said destroy the Canada post one when it arrives. It just shows how completely useless and redundant these peoples jobs are.

Flyers? Just throw them away, I can get better deals online thanks. Bank and CC statements? Online. Bills? Online. Tax return? Online/direct deposit. For myself, I could function completely without a piece of mail ever again. And all this strike has done is lower the demand for the service anyway.

Get bent CP employees.

can someone tell me why people still use Credit Unions? Email Transfers are reason enough to change to a real bank.

They're directly affecting my evening job since no one is sending out cheques in the mail so my work lost like 35% of the regular volume and they asked a lot of us to take days off until the strike is over. EFF YOU CANADA POST!

Being a Credit Union guy I kind of take offense to this.

If you operate a farm or a business I think the fee schedule alone is a huge reason to deal with a Credit Union over a "real bank".

That does not too mention the speed of getting credit decisions for commercial clients. Our turn around is generally 3 days (unless the request is urgent) and the decision making is done locally versus several big banks where credit decisions are done in TO.

We also get a bit more flexibility in our credit adjudication. Even for personal borrowing I have dealt with several people who do not fit the big banks program and they have thanked me for thinking outside the box to get a deal done stating the big banks have simply turned them away with no reasons given.

Credit Unions in Alberta also offer a 100% guarantee on deposits (and accrued interest) with no dollar limits. I forget, do the banks offer this?

Yes, I will acknowledge that Credit Unions have been a bit slower at adopting e-mail transfers, but several have adopted the technology and more will continue to adopt it. However, even in light of this, there are several people that do utilize a Credit Union for the reasons I have stated, which doesn't acknowledge the important role Credit Unions play in smaller communities where the banks have pulled out.

ATB isn't even a CU, they're a treasury.

Even given the 7 day scenario, losing a week of pay to make it up in a year is pretty pointless. Considering you've made up your wages based on the old pay rate, it negates the raise for that year. If they're on strike for a month, it negates the raise for the entire contract. So you're now working for 3 years at the same rate as last year.
I guess some could view it as unpaid vacation time however, they lose out on the funds but essentially they arn't actually working (unless your one of the ones picketing)

I really hope they are back to work by Stampede - I am waiting for a store to ship a package from TO. If they arent back to work soon I will bite the bullet and pay for Purolator.

Dunno...I've been banking with ATB for many years. I have a good account history, have all the built-in features I've ever needed and pay all my bills online. This is the first time I've needed something like an email transfer and quite frankly, I don't think I would ever use it at all if CP wasn't on strike, so for that one feature not being available, I'm not willing to change my entire banking setup that I have used for years.

ATB is just fine in my books...it's CP that screwed me over at this time with the strike. I'm going to work toward not needing the mail service for anything and then I won't care if they strike or not.
