Shaw Bundles
Hoping someone can clarify something for me. I'm trying to tweak my shaw bill and want to get on one of those new internet packages they have so I go to shaw.ca and click on the bundles tab which takes you to this:
http://shaw.ca/Bundles/
Here it says you can have Personal TV, Broad Band 50 and Personal Home phone for $99.
Under the Personal TV tab, it states "more than 40 of our most popular channels", popular channels is clickable and takes you here:
http://shaw.ca/Television/Channel-Listings/
So this is there entire channel listing which is not helpful as I need to know which the "more than 40 of our most popular channels" they are referring to so I can see what I'd be missing compared to what I have now.
Any idea what those channels are? Are they the ones listed under either the Basic or Digital "Show results by" drop down box?

I think the 40 channels or whatever is the Basic channels plus the music channels. You also get 12 HD channels, which are just HD versions of the Basic networks that do HD.

If you're an existing customer, phone them and ask for the retention department and tell them you're thinking about switching to Telus. Tell them that Telus has more HD channels standard (16) and that they have a promotion right now for $41 for 6 months of TV/Internet. See if they can reduce your bill.
I just did this last night (for Telus instead of Shaw though) and got $20/month knocked off my bill!
And yes, I believe the "more than 40.." is just the ones labelled basic plus a few others.

for telus it might work since shaw has some great internet plans now......the other way around i'm not sure you can get anything, but it doesn't hurt to try

It does, yes, but doesn't indicate which ones would be part of their "personal tv". I didn't want to assume so I called shaw and the emailed me a link showing which specific channels are in their personal tv, much more helpful as it showed me what channels I would be giving up and which ones I may be able to get back in one of their HD packages. Link below if anyone else wants to tweak or compare packages.

Just an FYI. There's no way it's 40 distinct channels. Basically you get channels 2-25 ish (minus the sports channels). I'm guessing they count the 12 HD channels as separate channels. Honestly, I didn't even know it has HD channels in the package until I read it in this thread. They only gave me the crappy basic tv box, so I guess no HD for me.

That basic bundle is garbage. When I looked it the other day I thought I was just misreading how limited it was. It appears I wasn't. $10 to add the basic sports channels? Spike TV in another $10 sports bundle? It would pretty much cost me $150 to rebuild the package I have now, with the only benefit being faster torrents.

With the way I've worked it, my bill should come down to ~$110 from ~$145. Only significant chanell I'm missing is AMC so I'll have to d/l The Walking Dead. Still get the other ones that are important to me. I selected Sports 1 and Entertainment 1 and am still getting pretty much everything I watched before. So my interent d/l speeds double, my cap is higher, have pretty much the same chanells for approx $30 less /mnth.

Is there anyway to subscribe to *only* HD channels through Shaw?

Not that I have seen. Clickoing on their HD packages, it seems as though some type of standard TV is always involved which is kinda dumb IMO.

Because the offers on that page are only good for the first 3-6 months afterwhich they increase dramatically.

Here's a list of the Shaw bundles without the intro pricing. I think the included prices are only for basic TV. It appears that a person can upgrade from the extreme package at $84.90 to the new Broadband 50 for the same price. So that's a good deal.
http://www.shaw.ca/uploadedfiles/Int...ckages_FAQ.pdf
I have Shaw high speed and Bell TV but I was offered an upgrade to extreme (no broadband 50 here) and the basic TV package plus a rent free HD receiver for $36 for 6 months, going up to $74 after the 6 months. I just don't have a use for another TV provider and I'm not switching to Shaw because in my area they don't offer centre Ice in HD and they don't offer a channel that was the reason I first went to Bell.

We just signed up for a Shaw package that is coming to about 145 with taxes.
After reading this thread and checking the links that seems expensive. What ticks me off even more is that I don`t even get OLN without paying 10 bucks for the sports 2 package? That seems bogus..

TBH, I'm already missing some of the chanells I had before. Nothing major but I sure do miss my back to back American Dad at 11. That was the price we were paying before I made these changes. Shaw's "Personal TV" just doesn't cut it really. I can see myself going back to my old plan which is really quite dissapointing. Maybe I'll add on one more theme pack and see how that goes.
