Hey everyone, this year for the first time I will be riding in the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer on Jun 25-26. 200 km through two days, all donations go to Cancer research.
I am riding as part of Team Believe, and our goal collectively is to raise $100,000.00 in donations. My personal goal is $3,200.00 but I'd love to do better. My personal donation page is linked below and I would appreciate any support you can give. I would love to post a big thank you to the members of CP on my donation page and together we could make great things happen.
A good friend, my sister and my brother in law are all riding as well, and I've signed up to volunteer this year. Definitely a great cause. Good luck reaching those totals!
I did the ride in 2009, over the hellish route down through Longview and into the Crowsnest Pass in the fact of hurricane force winds. It was one of the toughest, yet most gratifying things I have ever done, but was a great experience and really drove home how tough the fight against cancer really is. My mother is a cancer survivor, and my wife and I donate to the Alberta Cancer Foundation every year. Good luck with your fundraising!

I just signed up yesterday. I've got a good start going. Our team is actually going to be having a live music fundraiser. I will post details here for anyone interested. I hope that there will be lots of riders and volunteers from CP. I thought it would be a good idea to get a head start on the fund-raising!

Is there a way to join your team to ride with it? I just recently bought a road bike, and was thinking of doing this ride, but don't know enough cyclists to form a team.
nm I signed up solo, I if I ride on behalf of VW I should be able to get a pretty huge donation from them, as well as my dealer group. If you are near the back of the pack, I am sure I will get a chance to meet you...lol.
Oops., didn't see your posts last night, but I got your PM. Congratulations on signing up. I'm pretty sure our team isn't exclusive, I sent a message to our team leader to confirm. If you do decide to join later, we do some team fund-raising (pub-night(s), silent auction, I believe) and are planning some training rides (very early stages of planning) for mutual support. Each individual can certainly obtain whatever sponsorship they deem worthwhile. I believe we are looking at possibily getting one 'Team' sponsor at the moment but I don't believe there's any realistic likelihood of a conflict.
Either way, good luck on your training and fund-raising and we'll have to make a point of meeting up on race day along with any other CP'ers participating!

If anyone from CP does want to join Team Believe as a rider or volunteer, we will be happy to have you join us. As stated above, our team's goal is to collectively raise $100,000.00, but we are working together to try and and ensure that every member who wants to ride will hit their minimum requirement to ride ($2,500)at least.

Two of my friends still need to raise $2300 between them, and I see onetwo_threefour is just under $400 shy of reaching the $2500 minimum required to ride. If you can, please donate to help find a cure, and to help any of them ride!
Thanks for the plug! I am quite close to my goal and I actually have a couple of donations that haven't registered yet. Any further support would be great. I kind of forgot about this thread and haven't updated.
I've had some fun training and fundraising and a big setback as well.
Here's me about three weeks ago. (A little blurry, thanks to my sister's shaky hands!)
Crashed my bike during a training tun and dislocated my elbow. I just got back on my bike for the first time today. Elbow's a little deformed, but mostly pain-free.
On the long weekend I got a tattoo at Team Tattooed Against Cancer's tattoo fundraiser. For a $100 donation I got this tattoo that I designed myself. (I didn't want a date or words or a ribbon as was the general suggestions so I made my own that is about both cycling and the fight against cancer.
This was already posted in the tattoo thread, but it fits here as well since this was the impetus for getting it.
Keep helping us fight the good fight to raise funds to eradicate cancer!
I'm sure Resolute's pals would equally appreciate the support as well. To donate, please click on my progress banner below!

The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to onetwo_threefour For This Useful Post:
Good on ya, and ouch. I had a crash 2 weeks ago coming down Kensington road. Hit a big pile of swept gravel while turning and boom. Thank god for clip in pedals...lol. Bike stayed attached to my feet, and my body cushioned the blow and saved my sweet Trek 2.1 from any more than 20 bucks for a new lever cap in damage, and some scratched up pedals. The scabs are healing nice though...lol.
Anyway, since you were my inspiration to sign up I won't derail too hard here or steal your thunder. But.... if anyone on CP donates, I will match their donation dollar for dollar to a maximum of $100 per donation. Any of you guys that have won tickets from my give aways.... feel free to click my link! Also send a PM if you donate, so I know who to give credit to.
Almost the exact same thing happened to me pylon. I was turning from 17th Ave. S.W. onto 26th St. because I was sick of riding through the brutal piles of gravel and was hoping 26th Ave. might be a bit better. The back wheel skidded through one of those piles just as I was starting to turn right so I went down hard on my right side. Luckily, my elbow absorbed most of the impact, so my only repair was some new bar tape as it got all shredded in the gravel. There was actually a little piece of gravel embedded in the handle bar itself that I had to dig out of the metal before rewrapping with new tape.
As much as the elbow was a pain in the ass I was pretty happy I didn't trash my new bike either.

No wild riding stories for me, but I did get my volunteer assignments. I'll be working all three days... Setup on Friday, check-in/donations on Saturday and event flow Sunday.
Awesome, keep an eye out for me. (I don't know what you look like.)
At the dinner I'll be hanging out with my team, most likely, but I'm supposed to meet up with the Team Tattooed guys for evening bevvies after. If you're around I'll buy you a beer...
Same goes for pylon and anybody else from CP. (Only problem is buying beers might be tough in a tent city, It'll depend on what I pack along...

Well, since we are playing bike show and tell....lol.
looks like we have similar taste in color schemes. Yours looks full carbon though, I am Alum/carb. At 210, I didn't think the extra 600 bucks for 1 lb was worth it....lol. Plus I figured top components were more important than weight. NICE rig though.
^ Actually, mine is Aluminum with a carbon fork like yours. I'm a little leery of full carbon. I understand if you crash a carbon bike it can cause stresses and fractures that you can't see but can cause the frame to fail. (Given the way I ride and as evidenced above, crashing was always a distinct possibility, )
List price on mine is very similar to yours, (about $100 higher) but I got an awesome deal on last years model and got almost $500.00 off.
The other thing I liked about mine is that it's a cyclocrosss frame. I can put wider knobby tires on it and ride dirt and gravel roads, without sacrificing a lot of speed on the road on slicks. The only downside is that the top end gearing isn't quite as high as on a good road bike setup, but I'm not a high end racer and wanted the versatility.
As for components I've got SRAM Rival, they're either the equivalent or slightly better than Shimano 105 depending on who you believe, but the shifting is pretty cool on them and I preferred the shifting action to the 105 stuff I test rode. The carbon fiber brake levers are really nice looking on it as well.
Now, back to fund raising! Hey people please sponsor pylon and me. Pylon has a bit farther to to go than me, Let's make sure he can ride!!

Just an update. I've basically reached my fundraising goal thanks to all my generous supporters. I have a couple more donations I know are coming that will put me over the top, so I am not asking for support for myself anymore. I checked out the pages for both of Resolute 14's friends, and both of them could really use some support to get to their $2500 minimum to ride...
The cause is definitely worthy of your support and the more riders we get, the bigger the event and the party will be! Please click on the link in Resolute 14's sig and support if you can. There are only eight days left before the ride!
