I don't care about being intolerant of those of the dairy persuasion as long as he doesn't grow to be freakishly tall

I think lactose intolerant is the doctors way of saying "I don't fataing know, try this".

I kind of had that feeling. We are hoping solid food will help settle it all down.
Edit: Sorry Fotze, I am out of thanks, I will be back later to give you some.

My parents theorize that my brother's lactose intolerance stemmed from the amount of antibiotics he was on as a young child. Which may explain why he's grown out of it as an adult.
Either way as a milk hater I benefited greatly

We heard the same thing (although the term was "milk sensitivity"). My wife heard that from a nurse and took it as gospel. We "had" to buy soy formula and take great pains to cut my wife's milk intake to help. (the soy formula rgmg for a few reasons) I noticed no difference at all...my wife appaently did. We all know that you can always tell a woman, you just can't tell them much!
Well finally a doctor suggested that we just stop the whole avoidance of lactose and he just grew out of it. Knowing where the OP lives and where I live, I hope you didn't get this info from the same source!

I am sure there are some lactose intolerant folks on here and I am looking for some suggestions of dairy replacements that don't taste like burnt ass hair.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
More info about the kid: He is 6mo old and not weened. We are just starting on solids now.

Did the stomach issues start before solids? When we started our kid on solids it wasn't so much a stomach issue but more like; "How the #### can your little body turn applesauce into THAT!!!1!"

The stomach issues started prior to the solids. We have only done rice cereal. The thing that made us think he had problems with milk is that we tried some rice cearl at grandmas place and he got a rash around his mouth. I compared the ingredients and the one that Grandma has contained dry milk powder.
Slava, the advice was given by our doctor. We have also never given the little man formula, he has only had breast milk. This was something my wife felt strongly about so I went along with it.

you can buy lactose free milk at the store, it's just milk with an enzyme added that breaks down the lactose for you. we switched a while ago, we all drink it now too. That way you still get all the nutrients normal milk gives you without the added estrogen you can get in soy milk. you can buy it in any grocery store, but its' more expensive. tastes like normal milk, but a tiny bit sweeter, comes in one, two percent and skim.
also you can get lactose free cheese, (made from goats milk) lactose free ice cream etc. the sylvan star cheese company at the farmers market makes really good cheese there.
don't forget that lactose intolerance means that it's not an allergy, so you can probably get away with a little milk, but if you have a bunch, something will go wrong.
if my boy has a little bit of ice cream from DQ he's fine, but if we let him eat the whole cone, it's a rough day the next day. he's aware of the situation, and doesn't mind the trade off, so it can be challenging to get him to stop. I'm at the point where I just buy one cone, and tell him it's a sharing ice cream and I have to eat half of it....

To go one step further you can lose your ability to digest lactose at any age so misdiagnosing lactose intolerance could be the cause of someones lactose intolerance...

My personal suggestion is to go organic. Cut down on some chemicals/pesticides/fillers etc. from Mrs. Boblobla's diet and also from Jr. Boblobla's diet as he starts solid foods.
It worked for me. Peanut Jr. rarely puked and she's a pretty good sleeper. It might just be fluke but... worth a shot!!

I almost never drink milk, the whole idea of drinking another species milk is just odd to me.

But you're ok with eating, say, another species...ass, or arms or ribs?

So there's no avoiding the Milky Way, huh?

Exactly how old was this rice cereal at grandmas place? Powders and flours like that can contain moulds that may not be completely obvious. Just asking cause I know my parent's pantry is full of stale dated junk.

Before I destroy all of my credibility, I'll just say we were in the same position. We switched to formula due to the supposed intolerance.
More importantly though, I realize after re-reading this just how pathetic my post was! You guys went to see a doctor who has intimate knowledge of the situation, years of education and that sort of thing. I on the other hand not only have none of this, but relied on the J-Roc school of scientific thought (from Trailer Park Boys) and the whole "it could happen to you cause it happened to me".
Its probably my least favorite thing about the Internet.....I apologize!

Well, I am usually the one who chimes in but I am not going to say that about my own kid, that is just wrong. There are some lines that just shouldn't be crossed.

I just wanted to say where we got the advice. I like to hear stories from other parents and while I will not accept all internet advice as gospel it really helps to hear that other parents have gone through the same thing and hear how they coped. Being able to get advice and stories from numerous people at one source is one of my favorite things about the internet.
