I think the reputations of Anderson and Browner caused the Stamps to lose their last game last year. I am glad the Stamps are moving forward without them.

Why is a Non-Import having passport issues?

I understand that he grew up in the States but you would have thought by now he would have his citizenship/passport already and shouldn't have any of these issues.

Notes from Day 2:
Quote:
It was slotback Nik Lewis hitting the locker-room early — pausing to exchange pleasantries with TSN’s Duane Forde, who was in Calgary on Tuesday to do some interviews for pre-season specials — with what Stamps coach and GM John Hufnagel described as tightness on the inside of his legs.
“Pat (Clayton, the Stamps’ director of medical services) took him in, put some ice on it and got him on a stretching program,” said Hufnagel.
Quote:
The quarterbacks, meanwhile, were not as sharp as we’ve come to expect, although there were a couple of mis-run routes that made them look bad. On the whole, though, there were some ball-handling problems that should they occur closer to July 1 will be alarming.
On Day 2 of training camp? Not so much.
“They haven’t been as accurate as I’d like to see them,” conceded Hufnagel. “But go back to previous camps, and it’s been kind of the same way. I expect them to improve as we move forward.”
Quote:
the defensive secondary has been a very fluid unit, with players moving all over the place. Today, for instance, Brandon Smith, who’s been a wide-side halfback his entire career with the Stampeders, was lining up at Brandon Browner’s old position, short-side cornerback. That sort of juggling is going to continue for the foreseeable future until the Stamps get a grasp on which players fit where.

Day 3 Notes:
The offence continues to struggle:
Quote:
The offence got sloppy as the morning wore on, and offensive co-ordinator Dave Dickenson blew his stack at one point, wondering, quite rightly, how a play could be run five times in a row and still be screwed up.
Quote:
“I grabbed a ball one time,” admitted Hufnagel with a laugh after Tuesday’s late practice. “But then I realized I’m almost 60.”
The fact remains that Hufnagel had reason to be frustrated. While the Stampeder defence had a nice day during passing drills, all four quarterbacks didn’t do their receivers any favours, and it was noticed.
“The quarterbacks have to throw the ball better, simple as that,” said Hufnagel. “The problem you have playing the position is that there’s so much information going through your mind, and you lose the No. 1 criteria, which is concentrate on the throw. That’s what they have to get back to.”
Stamps have moved DE Khari Long from the injured-veteran list to the active roster

Stamps look to sign Tony Washington

As good of an athlete as Washington is — and he was a high prospect for the NFL draft last year until stories of his background started getting around — he’d still be fighting for a job here.

Word leaked out late last night that the Calgary Stampeders had signed import offensive lineman Tony Washington, but it didn’t leak out in the manner they’d hoped.
You see, Tony Washington is not your average import offensive lineman. He’s a registered sex offender in the U.S., which is a jarring statement until you know the facts of the case.

What a disgrace. I cannot and will not support that sack of trash. Even though it was consensual it's disgusting what he did, having sex with his biological sister.

While it doesnt make it right, it happened years ago, people deserve second chances.

What he did wasn't right. But read the situation and he was only 16 at the time. Mentally sick, no parents at 16 can lead to a lot of wrong things.

Everyone involved in the situation has forgiven him ( you not supporting him makes no difference). He's been clean for years. That was his only mistake. The guy deserves a second chance.

Hufnagel won't just bring in any guy, he;s done his homework hes talked to a ton of people. Good luck Washington.

MOD EDIT: No need for insults

The piece that ESPN the magazine did about him showed how he really did nothing wrong and the incident was blown way out of proportion.

The kid looks like he has some talent and hopefully can come in and help the team out.

Really good signing by the Stamps signing a guy that is a good talent on the field and a good person off of it.

Today's notes:
Quote:
some injury details revealed by Stamps coach and GM John Hufnagel that hadn’t been made public before as both offensive lineman Jon Gott and rookie fullback Jared Marchulenko are battling concussions,
Quote:
On the other side of the ledger, it appears that DL Corey Mace will come off the injured-veteran list and be cleared to practise as early as Monday, which would complete his comeback from off-season back surgery.
Quote:
I liked what I saw out of the secondary; the starting rotation right now features Johnnie Dixon and Geoff Tisdale on the corners, Keon Raymond and Brandon Smith at the halfs, Brandon Isaac at the coverage linebacker spot, and a rotation at safety that had Jemison and Darick Brown taking reps while Milt Collins rests a groin pull.
Kicker Rob Maver rested up a sore leg, allowing Burke Dales to break out his trusty square-toed cleat, which he used to make two of his three field-goal attempts.

I would rather have the reds, once or twice in a year blacks would be fine but the reds are classic.

Yeah why mess with a classic design? The article said they would be wearing them on the road. Maybe a few times but for 9 games? Meh.
