yes it is cliche, its a soundbite that uninformed people say to sound like they know what they are talking about.
again, im not saying she isnt dumb as a post but i have heard this comment from so many people who really dont even know if she is a RW or LW politician or where the state she was governer of is.
so when i hear how dumb Palin and Bush are, I take it as a sound bite and not neccesarily an informed opinion.

I just realized what Sarah Palin is.
Zaphod Beeblebrox. But prettier.

I would say it was more luck than anything. she was in the right place at the right time, just as Obama chose his opposite in Bideb (older, white, and catholic), McCain responded by choosing his opposite (younger female) while also trying to tap into the politically under represented (woman) to counter Obama's historic role.
It is too bad the republicans didn't have someone like Hilary to take the position, as Palin may set back the potential of female politicians. As for cliches, they often contain a kernel of truth. Bush was like Klein, not overly intelligent but a good populist. Palin is a special case of tapping into a hardcore right group and getting major publicity because of the vp nomination. She is woefully underprepared

Really? Who? I've never heard a person talk about Palin without knowing she's a Republican and from Alaska.
I don't even know what you are trying to say with your post. You are free to go research yourself whether you think Palin is an idiot or not. If you don't have an informed opinion on the subject, I'd suggest not entering the conversation. If you are going to challenge others viewpoints, you need to have your own before entering the fray.

Obama is competent. He understands complex concepts. He knows his history and he knows the dynamics of domestic and world politics. These all sound like things that every politician show have an understanding of, but Palin does not. She knows nothing, she's educated in nothing. I would say a sizable portion of this board are more competent than Palin and would make for a better President.

I'm not a Palin fan, but the US's big issue is with Obama not Palin, regardless of the press's preoccupation.
Second paragraph - blatantly false. Obama is far from competent, doesn't understand simple concepts, historically ignorant, and clueless, dangerously so, on both domestic and world politics. Period. If Britain hasn't figured that out yet (regardless of their distraction with a polarizing celebrity figure who currently holds no office and is not running for one), they're slowly getting the picture.

Who are you to judge who has an informed opinion about Palin or not? There are many people, both on this forum and elsewhere, who follow US/world politics very closely and are immensely informed about the subject who think that Sarah Palin is incompetent and has a facile understanding of American history.
Also, very few of the people who criticize her are not aware that she's a radical-right Tea Party/Republican candidate and former governor of Alaska.

Cliche: a trite , stereotyped expression; a sentence or phrase, usually expressing a popular or common thought or idea, that has lost originality, ingenuity, and impact by long overuse.

A friend of mine who lives near Phoenix, said she just bought a house, 4 miles from him, in Scottsdale. Arizona and Palin go together like peanut better and jam. I think she will start shooting at Mexicans near the border, from a helicopter.

None of this means that she can't truly be dumb. And if she is truly dumb, someone with an informed opinion can still call her dumb and be correct, and it will not be a "sound-bite."

There's a big difference between disagreeing with someone's politics and describing them as "far from competent", "ignorant", "clueless", etc. I'm not a fan of Stephen Harper, but I recognize that he is none of those things; nor is Obama. Take off your partisan homer glasses and you'd realize that while you may not support Obama's agenda, he is indisputably intelligent, capable, and historically knowledgeable.

It may be cliche, but its true. She's told everything to say and hasn't the slightest clue of her own on any real issue that she hasn't given a written speech on.
Put her in an unscripted debate with any other candidate from any other party, and she'll get trounced a thousand times over.

fair enough and i dont neccesarily disagree with this, however i usually take those saying it with a grain of salt until the demonstrate they actually have a back up to their position.
which is why i asked the question in the first place!

I'm sure most people heard about Palin's recent Paul Revere gaffe. She claimed that he rode through the night to "warn the British", then she was damn adamant after being questioned that she was right and she knows her American history.
The funnier part about it is apparently some Palin supporter then changed the Wiki page on Paul Revere to make her seem less ignorant by saying that Americans at the time were technically British subjects and so technically he was "warning the British" and her video was used as the source.

Hilar.

Your statement is as unprovable as mine. And that's the point. Both Obama and Palin speak in soundbites. They think that's all it takes to lead. The problem I have with the preoccupation with Palin is that she's not the President of the US. Obama is. And right now, there isn't that much separating the two of them in respect to proving any level of intelligence, capabilities or knowledge. You've provided as much proof about Obama's mystical capabilities as I have otherwise (actually less, as I linked to a foreign policy concern which, typical of the Obama administration, is being handled miserably regardless of anyone's partisanship.)

This is why calling Palin stupid should not be viewed as an opinion but as an obvious fact.

only if you are able to back it up ...
maybe my point is being lost ?
im not saying she isnt stupid and im not saying those that follow US politics dont have ample evidence of her being stupid.
i am saying that it has now become pop culture to simply state she is stupid as if to sound like you know what you are talking about! i have heard it plenty of times and each time i ask, oh ya, why do you think so, and in most cases I get the typical "cuz".
like they know Pailin, her politics and her intelligence because they seen Tina Fey do a skit.

I think it's pretty hard to argue that Obama hasn't been successful in his foreign policy. And let's not call Obama dumb, whatever you think about his politics, he's a smart guy. You're obviously just a partisan. I don't like Obama that much either, for the record.

Your point isn't being lost it's just asinine. Your saying there are hypothetical people who don't know why Sarah Palin is stupid but say so anyway. Thanks.
