Cash converters can be a bit hit or miss, but aren't too shady.

That's the one! I suspected that the arcade was a front from some dubious activities...I guess we'll never know. That location now sells pashmina scarves, or at least that's what the spray painted sign advertises.

I'd say the biggest collection of pawn shops is on 17th ave SE in Forest Lawn. Just find the closest liquor store; and there will be a pawn shop attached.

That place actually does sell Pashmina's. I was going to Turkey and bought one for my wife there so she'd have her own head covering for visiting mosques (as opposed to the communal ones)
It was super sketchy inside, but they definitely have actual inventory. (Cheap tube socks, anyone?)

For sure it could still be a front. But there were a number of people there actually buying the cheap tube socks and remnant hoodies, so I could imagine that it is an above-the-poverty-line living for the people who run it.
Although based on the crowd, maybe they were throwing in free meth with the factory second textiles. I certainly never got offered any, but I probably did a considerably worse job fitting in than an average police officer would.
Plus, I bet the rent is really cheap.

Oh man, I hadn't been to a pawn shop in years and just went last week, after cleaning out my storage area and finding a ton of old crap. I live in Edmonton so I was at the glamorous Stony Plain pawn shop / rub & tug district, just a complete hole of an area.
Man do they try & lowball you too, to the point where its just insulting (no room for bartering either, its take my lowball offer or get the F out). That's the last time I go to a pawn shop for a long time. Pawn Stars it aint (obviously). I'm sure there's decent ones somewheres, but I def couldn't find one.

If it is just DVD's and old electronics you will probably get $20 for it. Pawn shops aren't meant for the average person to get a reasonable amount of money on stuff they want to get rid of.
They are for where you get pennies on the dollar of the stuff you stole out of someone garage.
Kijiji is pretty good and if you are trusting not a lot of work. For sum low value stuff I just leave it on my porch and ask people to leave an envelope with money in. I haven't been ripped off yet.

Yeah I used kijiji for some of the bigger stuff. The dvd's & stuff I was hoping to just get rid of in one swipe. Don't want to sell them one or two at a time, and I'm doubting anyone would want to buy a box of random dvds.
