People in River park with clipboards???
Not sure how many people use this park or where there last night but does anyone know why there were like at least 20 people there with clipboards? They were all in groups of 4. I think I overheard they were in a class of soem sort but I saw age range from 12 - 60.

I'm guessing it's a class of some sort.

Isn't it about time for the annual poop pick up? Maybe they were taking inventory of all the turds so that they knew how many poop bags to order?

It's the "Day to pickup park poop".
It usually precedes the "Night of the flaming paper bags".

Obviously a clipboard convention.

I asked them what they were doing. Their resident dog whisperer had them go to the park to observe the ways the dogs communicate with each other, so that they might better communicate with their own dogs.

Did the shirts say "Timbits"? If so, that's a donut-worshiping cult. They get them young.

Kind of off topic but those people on the street corners downtown with the clipboards trying to get me to donate to the red cross or whatever really piss me off.

Oh yeah....soliciting in public spaces is not cool. The worst part is I tried to make a one time donation to them and they said you had to commit to a payment coming off your credit card every month. Apparently a large part of the money collect never actually finds its way to the charity either. Charities in general are bad at donating actual money to their cause. This puts another level of people you have to pay between you and the cause.

Presumably at least some of that money goes to paying the people with the clipboards...

They do seem to be getting more rude.
I should probably call the city and report them for violating the panhandling bylaw.
http://www.calgary.ca/docgallery/bu/cityclerks/3m99.pdf
Because I've definitely been hit up by these guys at transit stations, and they've pursued me after I've said no once. It seems to me like that's in violation of this bylaw. I wonder if they'd pay the fine ($50) or take the year in jail...

Do you think the city really wants to deal with the backlash for fining Red Cross volunteers? (assuming they don't have some form of permit, etc)
EDIT: Straight out of panhandling bylaw (3M99): " but does not include a solicitation allowed or
authorized pursuant to the Charitable Fund-raising Act, R.S.A. 2000, c.C-9. "
